Thx in advance. I am just curious. Partly I am asking because in the area I live in I see these teams running 10 invitational "large" races over several months (including state meet). That seems way too much. I'd think in HS ideally it would be a couple hard duel/local/in-conference meets (even if top kid runs away from field, but all-out effort to test fitness in low pressure race), a couple invitational /"large field" races (one early/mid season, then state meet) and for the best a national qualifier and nationals. I guess that would be 6. For those not good enough to do nationals or even national qualifying race, another invitational or hard conference race could be done. THat would still give 5 or 6. Do you need more than that?
College I am sure it's less. Maybe 4-5 big efforts tops?
What's typical for "top" runners (doesn't have to be top 10 in country, but say top 25 in state type kids, or top 25 in college conference).
