It kills me how something that was started to give kids a great experience somehow turns into an obligation for eternity. For whatever reasons, Nike felt they couldn’t put the event on. They aren’t screwing anyone. Also, we’re talking about a couple hundred kids. They are still hosting great regional meets for a huge number of kids. Kudos to them!
So, in the next couple years, Runninglane decides to stop hosting their event, are they evil guys trying to screw kids out of something? What started out as providing an opportunity will suddenly give the entitled someone to complain about.
The point is Nike has no obligation to put that race on, but if they want to have a true National Championship they needed to put this race on. It absolutely can be put on safe. There are tons of Cross Country races around the country being put on safe and it's odd Nike made the choice to cancel NXN.
Running Lane is getting support from top Individuals and teams like Newbury Park. I can see a shift if this goes well. I wound't be surprised if we see another major sponsor to the Running Lane National Championship meet.
