I have considered running a marathon for a long time, but find it very difficult to find a realistic but also challenging goal time. A lot of people say you should be conservative when setting a debut goal time. Although one should obviously respect the distance, is there really a reason why a time based on previous PR's shouldn't be realistic given proper training?
Say I went out and ran a 1:20 half marathon today, an equivalent time would be +-2:55ish on most charts. With the proper training, mileage and long runs for about 10-12 weeks, is there any reason this wouldn't be a reasonable goal time?
Thoughts?
