Yes, this all seems what happens when a group gets too big and the leader of it too far-removed from the athletes.
Jerry's coaching clearly works under these conditions:
1) You are fully healthy
2) You respond to lengthy, arduous strength workouts
3) You run the 1500 (as a strength-based 1500m runner) or up to the 10,000
If you get injured, you better be patient and hope you can get out of the cycle without really being catered to. If you're fast in the 800, do not expect Jerry to capitalize on your ability too much or customize your training to capitalize on your speed. I'd be dubious about him doing much for you as a marathoner either.
