Does anybody know what the previous record was? I assume this must have beaten it. Also what happened to US #2 Cheyenne Mountain, they were scheduled to compete, but didn't show up

Previous record was over 71 minutes. They were under 70 minutes tonight. Sub 14 average
Could someone describe what this course is like? How are the times this fast?

Flat and dry. Low humidity. Moderate temperatures.

Yeah I wouldn’t show up either after the 2mile at Arcadia
I’m going to say 2.9 miles.

Nah, Woodbridge is 3. It's one of the fastest courses in the country -- dry and flat start to finish -- but it's a true 3 miles.
friend of mine got 3.06 on his GPS, its definitely a true 3 this year
I doubt they could that pace for another 200 meters
Go beyond the 2 families and see a normal xc team. He has Young and Saliman boys. Go to his 5th to 10th runners, add in NP is one of the largest schools in California as D1. So before we annoint this guy, lets compare their 5th to 10th with Loyola, Jesuit, Dana Hills, Great Oak, etc.
Is he a good coach. Yes. Is he lucky. Yes.
Give any coach this wealth of family talent. They'll do well.
But he's just a coach.
This post is beyond absurd. They just lucked out getting the best twins and group of three brothers in the country? They just ran sub-70 without their true fifth guy, and just who anointed the Young and Sahlman brothers before they entered his program as the most talented in the country? They had ten guys under 15:34. My program had a guy in mid 14, probably the best xc performance in the school's history (one guy in the 1970s (4:18 mile/9:03 2M as a junior) smashed an Olympian's course record at Half Moon Bay, running without his orthotics and never ran well again, but that would be the only competition), and he was way outside of the top ten. Brosnan had five guys under 14:40 and his usual fifth guy was out with illness. Moreover, Newbury Park, for all of its supposed advantages, was a lousy program that did nothing in the distances prior to Brosnan's arrival.
He's coached the 5 fastest 3-mile times EVER right? That is an unreal statistic. If we exclude Nico's 2019 run, 4 guys on the same team in the same race ran under the non-Newbury Park national record. (And 3 out 4 weren't even Seniors). Yes, it's a 'fast course' in good conditions. But almost all records are.
Seriously, no matter how much talent you have, can anyone even fathom having 4 guys on one HS team run faster than any High schooler in American history (excluding their ex-teammate).
I don't care to argue about how good of a coach someone is... can't we all just appreciate how insanely baffling this is? It's really fun to watch, and I can't comprehend how there will ever be another team this good- in any sport- ever again.
On another note, those 4 could all go sub 14:40 at Woodward Park
If you score the entire meet from 2019, with only 9’s and 10’s, Newbury ends up with 28 points. This domination should have been expected after the 2019 race.
Why do you suppose there is argument over how good of a coach he is? Ya think it has anything to do with the coach making it about him?

You want to take out all 4 brother just because they’re fast. At most I’ll give you one from each family, but 4 is ridiculous. Why not take away every team’s #1 and #2 to evaluate a coach

Probably not a terrible way to evaluate a coach. Maybe even go beyond the top 7. How a team is built and developed without superstars is probably a more fair judgement.

The coach could literally be a mute ghost and people would talk about him/her. If you’ve coached the 5 fastest HS 3-milers of All-time, people will talk about you no matter what.
People talk about Molly Seidel’s coach, but is he even real? How many people have even seen him or heard him say anything ever?? He may be an actually ghost but people still talk about him on here… obviously I’m joking, I know he’s real because I’ve raced him in the flesh :)
Now imagine if he coached 5 Molly Seidels. People would talk non-stop… and accuse him of running an elaborate doping scheme lol
Also, coaching champions and developing mediocre talent to above average talent are different things. Coaches can be good in one area, and not as great in another area. (Or good in both).

Cheyenne Mountain did run 3 of their top runners (Exton/Collins/Warmack) at the Air Academy Kadet Invitational 2021. Those 3 are the ones who didn’t run at Liberty Bell and all 3 ran under 10 minutes in the 3200 last spring.
