As the title says I’m currently having issues racing. Whenever I run races my legs get this bad pounding feeling which obviously should be normal but the workouts I do show that I’m a MUCH better athlete than I’m showing. Examples I did 7 by 1k at averaging 3:08 on a grass circuit. I did 6x6 min broken tempo at 5:40 pace with 1 min slow in between and the slow was at 6:30 pace (overall I hit 7 miles at 5:50 pace for the whole run) and I could talk to my coach who was on a bike while doing it. It felt easy, heartrate average the whole run was 165. And most recently we did 20x400 on the track with only a minute rest in the wind and pouring rain I was told to hit 75 and I hit 74 the whole time and easily cruised a 65 for the last one and talked and laughed with a teammate during it. Then for races I ran a 4 mile at Augustana super flat and fast course in 22:25 and felt dead by mile 1.5 when I went out in 5:15 and then I ran 20:25 for 6k at Moorhead which is also fast and died by mile 2. My coach thinks I can run way faster should I be slowing down practice times even though they feel easy? Or should I be trying to figure out how to run races better?
