Nuguse could maybe break 48 if he trained specifically to do it. 48 high right now I bet. But he could split 47 on a relay.

ANOTHER ENTIRE THREAD WITH MEANINGLESS SPECULATION ABOUT WHAT HASN'T HAPPENED!!
Hey, people, I say Nuguse could run a 0.85 hundred meters! Even if he claimed this to be the case, IT HASN'T BEEN DONE, so it's just claptrap. His prediction for the 400 might be his honest assessment, and, who knows now (answer: NOBODY), it might come true, but IT HASN'T BEEN DONE. Just talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
And we're onto the third page of claptrap responses, including mine! Let's get it up to ten pages, at least! Let's show 'em what speculation really means!!
I don't think this is that unreasonable. I knew people who run 49 and to 51 secs who cold only manage 1:59 to 2:01 for 800 and 4:20 per mile. They considered themselves distance and ran mostly mile to 5000.
Brazier did it indoor. Many guys can do both but they don't try. Sowinski ran 46 and ran 4:01 in the mile without training. Pretty sure that he would have been a good miler if that was his focus.

Brazier has run 46 indoor. He also has run 3:35. So he obviously cold run 45 outdoor in a good race. Why would anyone not believe a smart kid who is one if the top runners in the NCAA? Nuguse wouldn't make say something without having been in the neighborhood during practice.
More like he has run 48 high and thinks in optimal conditions he can drop a 46.9.
I am sure all of these guys can run in the 47.5-49.0 type range. Very few are outliers on either. As always very few guys have run 400m when both prime age(how many guys are talking relay times from HS or end of practice times) and in peak form.
What makes Brazier an outlier? Take any of the great 800 runners and they can run 46 and 3:35.
Nuguse is of Ethiopian decent and there is nothing new under the sun: Ethiopians just do not have high top end speed. Only 3 people in entire Ethiopian history have run 400m under 46.
More than fast, he is delusional. Just one look at his running form and it is clear, that he is a 48 low runner at best (if specifically trained).

We are talking 1500m runners. Plenty of 800m specialists can run 45-46 range. Pretty much none of them (including brazier) have run a competitive 1500m.

No. Wilson Kipketer ran 3:42.80 and sub-4. Nothing remotely in the neighbourhood of 3:35. I seem to recall Johnny Gray running a few 1500s in random meets in California. Not all great 800 runners can/could run 3:35.
Brazier has run 3:35 while Nuguse has run 3:34. So 3:34 is competitive but 3:35 isn't?
I'd love to know what his basis for thinking this is. Has he run some flying 200's in training under 22.5? I just don't get why you would say that unless you have absolutely zero clue about your body, it's strengths and weaknesses and the physiology of the sport and it's events (maybe be doesn't).
Look Nuguse is hugely impressive. I picked him to make the Olympic team and he did. But the first time I ever saw him run was the solo 3.34 at the ACC champs (I hadn't even seen the 2019 NCAA win at that point) and I remember thinking "THIS guy won the NCAA and ran 3.34?" and I said that for the sole reason of his running form - very low "bucket" hips and swaying arm carriage. But hey, he is tough as nails both physically and mentally and the 1500m/mile is ultimately an endurance/strength event.
But that's beside the point - Jared can work on his speed all he wants - there is zero chance he will ever, EVER even get close to 46 seconds in an open 400m - not even in a relay. I am just going to chalk this one up as amusing and pretend like his was deliberately making fun of himself which he very well might have been.
Stop thinking about it and go out and do it.
Hard to find a 3:50 miler who can't run 48 split on a 4x4 relay.
So yeah, Nuguse has 46 - 47 at least.
Calling his training strength based is a bit of a misnomer; truth is strength is all he needs as he is good to go speed side.
Who cares whether he can run from blocks or whether he never gets into a world class 800m?
His sweet spot is 1500-2000m.

Seb Coe 3:29.77 for 1500 and 46.87 for 400 IN A RACE Source Tilastopaja, Coe also ran UNDER 45 in a Relay so add about 1 Second due to running start.
Or he has run close to this in practice and you all are the ones who have no clue. He is smarter than 99% of the posters and only he knows his body and training. But of course you know better.

Dude what?
Cooper Teare has run 3.50 - you think he splits 48 on a relay?
A better example is Nick Willis who of course ran 3.29/3.49 and could run 48 low in a 4x4. Not under 48, somewhere between 48.0 and 48.5 with a rolling start. And of course we are talking about a guy with a PR 5 seconds faster over 1500m and probably comparable endurance over the 5 (Willis never really tapped into what he could have done over the distance - probably somewhere in the 13.10-5 range)
So I'm just curious how you end up with Nuguse 46 -47 "at least" - my god some of the takes here are ridiculous.
