I think they should take it a step further and make the runners wear disposable shoe covers when they run through the city to keep E. coli from spreading.

A) NPS issues a waiver of mask rules for this event
C is by far the easiest, so that's what happened. Organizers will have to pay lip service to the rules with signs and announcements, but aren't going to dedicate any resources to enforcement. Organizers explicitly said runners won't be pulled of course, but "could" be disqualified. (They won't be, but they "could" be.)

A is what I wanted to see happen given the testing and vax mandate. I'm all for being cautious about Covid but we need to be scientific about it otherwise people won't respect what the authorites are telling us.
The one thing I will say is that among the running community, marathon and ultra marathon running types are probably at the highest risk for contracting COVID and having and adverse outcome. Marathons are serious stressors on the body, with many individuals suffering transient acute kidney injury and dried out mucosa that put an individual in a immuno compromised state whereby they are more likely to get a URTI like COVID.

Marathons are not exactly healthy endeavors.
Overkill. Obviously outdoor transmission is theoretically possible, but it's total overkill to make runners wear masks. And isn't the National Park area the least crowded part of the course?
Hopefully they take them off when they run through the homeless encampments.
This race shouldn't be happening.
Jogging long distances for pleasure is an unecessary medical risk and such events should be banned FOREVER!
Overkill. Ridiculous. Not smart. The worst of non-thinking, inflexible bureaucracy. But these are the times we live in.
Realistically, do you really think they're going to have people in badges yanking non-compliers off the course?
Very unlikely.
There's a simple solution. Throw a mask in your pocket. Slap it on your chin when you get to the required place, making sure it's visibly on but covering no essential breathing air-holes that would impair your performance or breathing. Then take it off when allowed.
In other words, half-a$sed compliance to the extent the mask Nazi's can say, "We tried," yet those that really want to run, can still run.

Blue States LOL...
Seems silly, but not as silly as allowing rampant covid disinformation on a public forum.

They should wear helmets and kneepads too.
You know, just in case.
Hazmat suits, condoms, goggles, isolation gowns, burkas...There is no way to parody the panic mongers.
100% necessary to protect vaccinated runners from a virus that has a 1 in 100K chance of killing them. Everyone knows as soon as you cross the line into federal property COVID immediate becomes like a 1000 times more spreadable and a million times more deadly. The Virus knows ......
Clearly, they are just following Tah Science. In fact it is incredibly irresponsible not to make them wear 2 masks for this portion of the race.

That would be reasonable, but shockingly it didn't happen. No ones is going to care who complies with the rule in the end, so I don't think it matters.

What does "being scientific about it" mean in this case? Has the transmissibility of delta outdoors has been thoroughly studied? It seems earlier variants really only spread indoors, but basically all cases in the US are now delta. We know that delta is much more infectious, and that breakthrough cases are common.
I'm not advocating for the use of masks on the bridge, but I doubt there would be a "scientific" basis for issuing a waiver.

Crap like this is why there is vaccine hesitancy and cynicism over Covid.
I think if the pols truly practiced what they'd preach you'd see more compliance w/vax mandates and mask mandates b/c people would have buy-in.
VERY telling that Rojo is upset about this and NOTHING the anti vaxxers have done. Why is that? Is it because Rojo is an anti vaxxer?
I’m just asking questions
.... But it's o.k. with the rules committee to spit, and vomit if you get sick to your stomach.

An article from 2018. Hahaha you are stuck on boomer time.
Go post in the "I visited San Francisco" thread if you want to see the truth!
In San Francisco, the number of homeless people has increased more than 800% in the past two decades.
Mayor Ed Lee created the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) in 2016. The agency is tasked with spending at least $1 billion through 2020 on homelessness reduction and prevention programs. Last year, the agency reported significant decreases in families and unaccompanied youths experiencing homelessness. However, the agency also noted an increase in individuals experiencing homelessness.
