I will be having a surgery to fix a ruptured disk between L4 and L5 and then fusion to L4 and L5 . Anyone on here ever had this? what can I expect? how long will I be down and how long till I can return to at least a slow jog ?

I had the same surgury in 2014 when I was 45, and struggled for about 18 months after that. I did all rehab and only started to feel better when I got a lot stronger and lost 10lbs. I had a couple of aborted attempts to get back into running, and finally strung together about a year of running last year. However, I started getting back issues again , which I now realise was due to my running again. I stopped running around Christmas 2020 and got back into bike riding, and have not hat back problems since. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Get a second opinion, if they agree, get a third opinion etc. Surgeons are quick to advise surgery, you know why.
I have avoided this for 20 yrs, because nothing good comes out of it from the experience of others.
you had the fusion? I am debating whether to get the fusion. I will get the herniated disc repaired but am having second thoughts about the hardware in my back. my surgeon said I might need it in 5 to 10 years or might not. he suggested doing both at the same time. But like I said I am having 2nd thoughts of the fusion. if you had it to do over would you have the fusion ?
Sorry, misread the OP. I didnt have the fusion, only the microdiscectomy.
