Are there any youth running enthusiasts that might be able to give me some advice?
I have a young runner who has a lot of heart but his form is terrible. He is 8 years old and at probably the 99th percentile for height for his age, and extremely skinny. He runs with his shoulders very bunched up and struggles to build momentum with his arms when he runs. Kind of like an uncoordinated newborn deer, to describe it best! Does anyone have experience with young runners who may experience similar issues?
Do I do my best to encourage him and hope that the issues fade as he ages, grows into his body, and gets more experience with running?
OR
Are there any exercises or drills that you might be able to share that encourage proper form in the younger age group?
If I can, I'd really like to help him improve on it now as much as I can so it doesn't turn into a habit that follows him as he ages.
Thank you!!
