Checking back in.
I’ve followed everyone’s advice and I’m ready to go this weekend. Feeling a little sluggish like maybe I overtrained a bit but hoping that by Saturday morning I get my vigor back. Fingers crossed.

You'll be surprised by what a steep taper can do. Don't let the kids convince you to run 10 miles 2 days before your race. These days, even for shorter races, I'll run something like 6-5-4-3-2-13.1 the last week, with some moderate work at pace on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday (think 800/400/2 x 200 at goal HM pace with lots of rest Tuesday, 400/2 x 200 Thursday, 2 x 100 Friday morning). The goal is just to keep your legs fresh and remember the rhythm you want to hit. Otherwise, all you want is rest and recovery at this point. Good luck!
Goal met! 1:55! I am so thrilled to have met my sub 2 hour goal! Looking back I was overtraining when the tempo runs were so hard. Still loved the routine of a easy Monday, Tempo Tuesday, medium long run Wednesday, hill repeats Thursday, easy Friday, and long run Saturday. Probably will alternate tempo Tuesdays to reduce the load going forward. Race felt strong and easy after a 2 week taper. I appreciate the feedback and comments that I received earlier in the thread. Next years goal will be sub 1:50.
Nice. Do you have some races picked out for the spring? Maybe try something shorter before you get back into HM training. You could train for a few 5Ks/road miles. Fast is fun.
