Another good question is does he have any realistic plans if he can no longer be a pro runner? Or will he get caught with his pants down?

Centro either picks up the steeple, or fades off into oblivion. It's not like he can hang his hat on epicness, other than for those who think kicking off 5 minute pace is something.
Plus it is much more likely that a person with a better all around attitude and lifestyle, such as Jenny Simpson, will be able to extend her career at a higher distance. Centro hangs around rookies and very immature.

Centro running XC or the 10000m is not going to happen. No runner with similar ability and at the same stage in his career as Centro has done that and neither will he.
In regard to your first 2 suggestions, Centro will do whatever he's always done at the end of a season.
He ran 13 flat for 5k 2 years ago. He could do it. And I bet he's planning to
He's headed for Hoka in AZ!

His GF Shelby getting banned after both of them ordered and ate carne asada burritos from the same taco truck on the same order is what killed his racing drive. Shelby blamed her positive test on what they both had eaten, and Centro supported her claim. Think about that happening, and then think about how it would affect you.
You're mistating some facts. He wasn't there the day she bought the burrito and they were no longer dating by that time.
The mistake is yours. You should watch Centro saying what I posted on a video interview. It is his statement. "The burrito truck ... was a place we ate at every single time with her. Her and I would always get the same carne asada burrito." @ 53s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HccqofUCqScRojo, I believe that he has not done any interviews since the OT. Am I correct?

Simple:
-Stay with Jerry or switch to Ritz
-Aim to qualify for World XC, then 5k-10k next Spring/Summer
A switch to Ritz would make sense. After all both were "grey zone" doped up by Salazar and they would have plenty to reminisce about. Good call.
"His GF Shelby getting banned after both of them ordered and ate carne asada burritos from the same taco truck on the same order..."
Doesn't "same order" mean he was there? She was not his GF at the time.
So we should believe a guy who was coached for many years by a CONVICTED drug cheat. Centro has never fessed up to any wrongdoing at NOP and Jerry should not have let him on the team.
I should add that the sample that was positive for Shelby was from months before the ban. December 15, 2020. Did relationship end before that? An article from June of this years indicates they were still a couple. The timeline is fuzzy.
Anyway, I think her ban has affected Centro a lot.

December 15, 2020.
Centro ran 13 flat in some weird made up Nike Portland sanctioned time trial/race with like 4 people in it. He needs to break 13 in Europe to be taken seriously as a 5k threat. Can you he compete with Chelimo, Fisher and all the rest in a fast US champs 5k? I am not sure but it would be interesting to see what he has the last 1k in a 5k race (either tactical or flat out fast).

No he's not. His best distance is somewhere between 1500 and 3000m, so running XC or the 10000m is out of the question for him.

No way is he going run track 10ks or World XC. 3k/5k is one thing, but he won’t seriously go beyond that (he doesn’t have world class long distance aptitude).
As for the general crux of this thread, I figure he could still run 3:32.0/7:33/12:59 in the right race, on the right day. If I were an American who could run 3:32.0/7:33/12:59, I would be/remain a professional runner, simple as that.
I think he should make one more legitimate push to make the 2024 olympic team and retire after that. The olympic trials for that are less than 3 years away. He could decline slightly and still probably be top 3 or at least have a real shot.
And I imagine he is still able to make around $100k from running the next few years, he is a very well known runner and has a real shot to make more world and olympic teams the next 3 years, so that's worth a contract and he can make some decent prize money. I don't imagine he has any other career options that would be paying him more than $100k per year at the moment. Eventually he could get into coaching, but he won't be starting out over $100k. And I'd think traveling the country and world and not having any responsibility other than trying to run fast is more enjoyable than having to manage a collegiate running team all year.
He'll come back next year and make the team at 1500m for Eugene WC and race in front of the home crowd one more time.
Thanks for the great question and insufferable analysis, Robbie! Did Centro not return your DM?

he would train for 10k XC as a way for prepping himself for track 5ks
He could do it and I suspect he WILL
Your title “How Quickly Matthew Centrowitz’s Drewms and Form Have Declined” is quite misleading. There has been nothing quick about it. This is what often happens with elite runners. Of course it does not always happen but remember Centro ran a 3:49 this summer. He has not really declined that quickly, but rather he has had an unusually long career as an elite 1500m runner. He has 2 World Championship medals, the first 10 years ago! And of course the gold medal from 5 years ago. This was not particularly unexpected as if you look at the finalists from that 2011 World Championship.1500m, he is really the only slightly relevant runner, unless you count Nick Willis.
Whatever. Professional athletes retire all the time and Centro will figure out something.
