They haven't updated the bios for Teare and Hocker. Teare was 6th in xc two years ago, so with him being a 3:50 miler and 13:12 5000m runner, he should tear it up. There's a good slogan for him. Hocker at 13:18 would be top five caliber, and Mestler and Hunter, among others, are top mid distance runners, but it has been a long time since Oregon tried to win ncaa xc with the men. Middle distance track is always their priority. By that standard, they may have the best five milers on one team in history this year. These guys can also be hauling in money this year through the rule changes.
These were their top guys in the 1500m last year and most are back for xc, while there are four guys listed below as seniors from 2021 track--don't know if they have some covid-related or indoor eligibility I didn't know about:
1500 Meters (Men)Top↑
2 Teare, Cooper JR-3 Oregon 3:35.97 Oregon Twilight May 7, 2021
4 Hocker, Cole FR-1 Oregon 3:36.47 Oregon Twilight May 7, 2021
18 Hunter, Charlie SR-4 Oregon 3:38.17 Oregon Twilight May 7, 2021
44 Brown, Reed JR-3 Oregon 3:40.64 Oregon Twilight May 7, 2021
54 West, James SR-4 Oregon 3:41.42 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships May 14, 2021
79 Yearian, Jack SR-4 Oregon 3:42.66 Oregon Twilight May 7, 2021
92 Wisner, Matt SR-4 Oregon 3:42.95 Hayward Premiere Apr 2, 2021
They also have some younger guys who will break out this year.
Obviously, Hocker ran 3:31.40/3:50 as well.

It is silly to compare point totals. Compare track times of the top 5 for Oregon to those teams and you will see that Oregon is better than those teams from the past. Guys are faster today. The world population has doubled.
Utter nonsense. What is relevant it how they run in XC vis a vis their competition. If they get it done this year, credit to them. Until then they are just another wannabe.
Your argument is dumb. What if most of the top guys get Covid and Iowa State wins the meet with 25 points. Does that make them better than previous teams? Your logic says it does. What if all of the top teams did track last season instead of XC. As a result, ND scored a perfect 15. The best team of all time then. Guys are faster than they used to be. Population is increasing. Several teams had more than 7 guys break 14 in 5k this season. I think 1 team had 10 guys do it. I recall that BYU had 7 guys a few years ago and they were the first.
Oregon had their opener today. No Hocker, Hunter or Teare.

The correlation between fast 800/1500 track times and a 10k XC time on grass is pretty damn weak. All of those track times are better than Young and Nur's track PRs yet the two of them somehow managed to finish 4th and 7th in the XC National Championship last year. Young and Nur will certainly be favored to finish ahead of everyone on Oregon's roster in this year's race as well except for Teare.

Do they run the 1500 in XC now?
Where is Holland? He shattered the Oregon state XC meet record and likely could have run sub 4 if he didn’t shut down his senior track season. He’s still not ready to race in a low key meet?
Oregon has 26 men on its roster which is a lot!!
Maybe by some but Oregon is going to show NAU how it is done.

Dang, I was 21 years old in my last NCAA track meet since I have a summer birthday and never red-shirted. I am now on a post collegiate training group or team, so I don't understand what the 'very slow person who doesn't udnerstand the desire to compete and be part of a team' comment means... Instead of going to classes he could work a part time job that pays for his food and rent. He's not getting anything beyond that from a scholarship. He could train with OTC and do that, or a few other training groups at his level. Being 25 and still in the NCAA system is a joke. I could see 23 tops, even 24 is a joke. Move on with your life, NCAA is for the 4-5 years after high school. It's the US equivalent of European U23 Championships.
Why not compare their World Cross finishing places? Oh wait..none of these Oregon guys are good enough for World Cross. Someone like Ed Eyestone. Third runner from his conference at NCAA. Later that season 6th in the world cross behind 5 all time greats. The standard now is nowhere near that standard.
