Who wins the individual title? I’m thinking Teare or maybe Hocker if he comes back. If Oregon can get all of their studs to come back for cross, they’ve got a good shot a winning, but NAU, Stanford, and ND (among others) are going to be really good this year.

BYU is in the mix. They always seem to pull together five decent runners from somewhere to be a contending team.
my thoughts:
NAU has a great 1-2-3 in Nico Young, Abdi Nur, and George Kusche, but will need 2 more solid (all-american) performances out of guys like Drew Bosley, Brodey Hasty, Caleb Easton, Corey Gorgas, Ryan Raff, Theo Quax, or their top incoming freshman, Tristian Merchant and John Scherer.
Realistic Goal: first place team finish
Oregon also has a great 1-2-3 with Cooper Teare, Cole Hocker, and Aaron Bienenfield, but will need 2 more good performances from guys like Evan Holland, Reed Brown, and Caleb Brown. It's also worth noting that this team is loaded with unknowns, with Ben Thomas coaching you never know who could make the leap to fill out the back end of their roster.
Realistic Goal: Top 8 team finish
Notre Dame returns their entire top 5, all of which placed 23rd or better at nationals. They also have a great 6th in Josh Methner.

Stanford will be led by Charles Hicks and Cole Sprout, and if the trees can pull out 3 all-american performances out of Callum Bolger, Thomas Boyden, Devin Hart, DJ Principe, Ky Robinson, and Meika Beaudoin-Rousseau, they should surely place on the podium.
Realistic Goal: Podium/ top 3 team finish
BYU: They have arguably the best top 3 in the country with Conner Mantz, Casey Clinger, and Brandon Garnica. With a couple of all-american/ top 50 finishes from guys like Elijah Armstrong, Ethan Cannon, Zack Ericksen, Matt Owens, Clayson Shumway, Aidan Troutner, and Adam Wood they should have a spot on the podium, but if they want a chance at placing first as a team they would need their 4-5 guys in at least the top 25-30 range.
Oklahoma State: They have a solid top 5 in Isai Rodriguez, Alex Maier, Ryan Smeeton, Ryan Schoppe, and Victor S (last name flagged for profanity). These 5 will ideally be spread throughout the top 40, and could contend for a win on a good day.

Arkansas: A dark horse pick in my opinion. They return their top 5 of Amon Kemboi, Luke Meade, Gilbert Boit, Jacob McLeod and Emmanuel Cheboson. Similar to Oklahoma State, their top 5 will hope to be spread out among the top 40, and if they run well will certainly be on the podium. It's also worth noting that Kemboi, Gilbert Boit, and Jacob McLeod all ran at indoor nationals, with both Kemboi and Boit pulling 5k/3k doubles.

Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Oregon XC looking fit. The guy who kept up with Teare for 15 miles, Quincy Norman, looks like he can be a major contributor. I’m also looking at guys like EJ holland who had a great indoor track season running sub 4 as a true freshman. He could make a major impact as he was a very good cross country runner in HS and has the Oregon Hs state meet record I believe which has a history with Galen Rupp, Matthew Maton etc. I don’t know how it’s going to play out but I’m excited for this Oregon team.

Oregon also has 8;27 steepler Jackson Mestler.
NAU and Notre Dame have to be considered the front runners because of their tight 1-5 spreads. Many other teams with a chance though. Can't wait to see how the season plays out.

How about teams like Butler, Southern Utah, and Washington? They all ran well in Cross and had overall good track seasons. Washington had an off day at NCAAs but always are loaded with talent.
What about Michigan State? They return everyone including Beadlescomb who finished 6th at the trials in the 5k. The neither team has missed a beat with Lisa taking over for Drenth.
Dion Marquise Hayes top 10 maybe even individual victory if he gets his stubborn coach to be flexible and proactive with his training.

My opinion, these 9 teams have the pedigree to podium. The teams you mentioned could well crack the top 10. I just don’t see them as threats for top 4.

Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Armstrong, Owens, and Shumway were seniors last year and won't be back. Troutner, Wood, Erickson and others will have to pick it up.
Armstrong is listed on Tfrrs as running this year.. The other two are not. Obviously all three could have run this year with the covid extra year.

No results for Casey Clinger or Easton Allred. Wonder what is going on there. If Clinger, and all are healthy, their top 4 are going to be really strong (Mantz, Clinger, Garnica, Troutner). There are a bunch of others comming up also.

Easton probably won’t be a factor this season. Bons might be the breakthrough BYU needs though. I think Clinger will be fine. I don’t have any particular inside information, just reading the results and I think we would have heard if Clinger was hurt.
