Wasn't the point of of all these "super" shoes with carbon plates supposed to be the best of both worlds.
The problem is the daily trainers that don’t have a carbon plate, but still have super cushy foam. They are great for about 50 miles, but eventually the foam has nothing firm to compress against and just stays permanently compressed. Then they offer no stability whatsoever, so you’re running on a thinly cushioned shoe with no support.
For everyday trainers, the recent Brooks Launch and Nike Pegasus models both have a firm no frills feel to me . The Pegasus is a llghter while the Launch gives more feedback. There are plenty of overstocked pairs from past years available in the $50-$75 dollar range.
I do my mileage at 6:00-7:00 pace without any issues. I also occassionally do short "trackwork" in them at 70-75s/ 400 pace and they're just fine. I change them out about every 300-400 miles but I am a forefoot striker so I break shoes down quickly.
For timetrials and races I must admit to having a pair of Vaporflys which are defiitely an advantage for all out efforts. Still, even if I had all the money in the world to buy extra pairs, I wouldn't train in Vaporflys or other supershoes more than two or three times a month at most.
