When I say, "a lot" obviously the same principles are there. They still do hard long runs, lots of mileage, and quick speed (think 12x150m).
But... Since "Running with the Buffaloes" some things have changed. Mark encourages double runs (something that was unthinkable back in RWB days) and the workouts are definitely different and, honestly, pretty different different compared to most colleges. I would give examples, but don't want to give away too much. They also take a lot more easy days which makes sense considering most of their guys use to get injured a lot more.
It's just interesting to see a program's change over the past ten years while still placing high every year. I'd love a 2021 Running with the Buffaloes book.
While most colleges hold the same training principles, it's cool to see some diversity. In studying CUs training they never did any 5k specific sessions (think 4xMile @5k pace). Instead it's the culmination of many workouts that give them an idea of fitness.
P.s. This is from studying their distance program (5k/10k/XC), not other people so I'm sure the training is different based on your specific event.
