We have no reason to trust the word of the Taliban to be perfectly clear. But right now, they’ve said they will pardon everybody who worked in the afghan military and government (if they submit), and are committed to getting everybody back to work and allowing women to continue working and going to school, so long as they follow sharia law and wear full body veil or whatever. It remains to be seen whether they will flip the script once they are firmly in power, but as of right now, there’s not been any violent conflict between taliban and anybody except Afghan and US military. And I have no reason to suspect any news of this is biased because neither political party would be motivated to defend the Taliban, that’s the one thing we can agree on.
So the Taliban seem to know what they are doing this time, they want the support of the Afghan people more than anything. From what I’ve read, last time they started by absolutely slaughtering everybody. Now they know that’s not the move when you are trying to build a nation.
OP is right as of right now. It remains to be seen whether he will continue to be right.
