That Sportschau article reads like a gangster novel:
Immediately after Amdouni's confrontation outside of Paris, an informant received unmistakable threats by Whatsapp from Amdouni's close circle.
"You are in your own world (name redacted) - in France there are Russians, Romanians ... who kill for 1000,- Euro and you, you play with it ... One day all the athletes, whom you have done evil to, will turn against you ... there were some of them ... that‘s life ..."
The informant replied: "If someone does something to me, I don't regret anything." And: "(name redacted) I'm not afraid of anyone."
The person threatening the informant then wrote: "Ok then work together with the anti-doping agency like before"
There could be another explanation--perhaps he was trained to grab water bottles by the coach of the US men's 4x100m relay team.

Congrats on being as sh!tty of a human as Amdouni
To me this looks unintentional. He's in an awkward position as he reaches out. Most of the bottles seem to be knocked over by outstretched fingers rather than a swatting motion by the hands.
Who's going to be thinking about deliberately knocking over bottles 30k in while in the lead pack? Doesn't add up.
One thing I did find strange with this race was the use of tablecloths at all these stations? It seemed like an unnecessary tripping hazard IMO.

The jerk deserves a one year ban from races.

What kind of an "awkward" position would that be?
Right next to the table like every other runner in the history of the marathon? What's he supposed to do, start hovering over the top of it like a drone?
It doesn't have to "add up". He did it because he's an ahole.

Ouch. Hilarious, though! Best post of the Olympics for sure :-) haha.

They actually needed a coach to pass the baton like that?

It really would be more sporting if you stuck to one handle.

Any apologists show bias, lack of common sense ,or lack of racing experience.
Heat or no, even at 5 minute miles, it’s trivial to grab a cup or bottle.
Don’t think we saw anyone else doing this - that alone should tell you something. Dude should be given a DQ
He posted a video message on Instagram lasting four minutes but did not give any explanations for this bizarre gesture in which he could have inconvenienced the other runners behind him.
Personally, I think he did it in the heat of the moment (no pun intended).
It was obviously a very bad gesture but there are may be other factors which might explain it including extreme fatigue, dehydration and an injury which he also mentioned in his Instagram message in which he makes reference to injuring his hamstring but having the courage to finish the race for the French team
Here is his message on Instagram and if you took school boy French in school you will probably understand him because actually he really has a very clear and eloquent way of speaking French with absolutely no accent that is normally associated with people who live in Corsica or the south of France or the type of accent that you normally associate with north African people.
Basically the gist of the messages is that he gave everything in the race that he could, and that he was suffering from a hamstring injury which slowed him down but he finished the race to honor the flag of France. He made absolutely no reference to knocking off the water bottles during the race and I’m not sure if he was even conscious of it. He was possibly in a delirious state when he did it?
He's an opportunistic thug. The only lapse he had was thinking he was back in the streets of France with his boys.
The idiots will skip over this, but he was born in Corsica so is a French national. And an ashole.
A neighbor of his wrote the following about Amdouni:
“ A tous les haters, je veux juste dire que je connais Mourad en tant qu'ancien voisin en Corse. Une gentillesse et une courtoisie sans pareilles, une éducation au top. Vraiment un homme bien, très loin de vos jugement délétères.”
Translation: to all the haters I just want to say that I knew this man as he was my neighbor in Corsica. He was a very nice and courteous man and well educated. Really he’s a very good man and very much not like people are judging him now negatively.

I've read the same thing about serial killers.
