I doubt he will run XC.
Is there even much point in him going back?

There is no point in him running the 1500 again outside of championships where Oregon is hungry for points. Would love to see him and their whole team try to take on xc. It would be tough and it would strengthen Hocker and maybe good for him in the long run. I think Teare has a year of eligibility left. Oregon should go for the cross title.
His decisions might change. He and Cooper should take a package deal to keep the nucleus together.
There is not a better time to accept money based on the future. He was 6th in the Olympics as a 20 year old. My assessment is that the more international experience he gets the more likely he is going to be able to run up top regardless of pace. That is all he was missing yesterday - the confidence to run up top. That just takes experience. This was the fastest race he had ever been in and he ran the equivalent to a 3:48.31 Mile, his best since the big 3:50.39 race by Teare where Hocker was 3:50.55.
Imagine you’re a mid major kid and your coach got you in the first heat. You’re hype that you have a good chance for a PR
You get to the starting line and Cole Hocker is just standing there
But seriously if Hocker gets beat by “lesser athletes” during the early NCAA season due to peaking and stuff I wouldn’t go and say he’s “done” but I have a feeling that will happen on this site

I imagine e other athletes may rise to the occasion and compete with him
What does he have to gain by continuing to run for the Ducks?
Nuguse could certainly push him (and then get outkicked).

You say it like there is no one else fast training out there.
He really should go pro. You never know what could happen and this is the time to lock in a contract. It will also give him great international experience, which is probably what he needs. All the young East Africans get international experience early on. Now is the chance for us to have an American exposed to the same thing.
If he doesn't go pro- BAD decision not to.
Take OR classes, train with the team, race unattached as a Pro. But 1 bad injury, and he earns $$ working a schmuck job like the rest of us
