I second this. She mentioned as much after her trials, hasn't raced since, and I think comes to Tokyo meaning business.
not in this humidity
Zero chance of that happening. She probably runs 29:30ish.
No chance. It will start slow with no one wanting to take it on in the heat. I think Gidey will go for a long run from home, like she did in Doha 2019. Think this time she has a better chance of beating Hassan though. Expect the last 3k split to be ridiculous.
Looks like the heat really got to her. Her whole form changed in the last 2 k…
She needed 29:10 pace to break Hassan. Unfortunately she did not run this pace. Too fricken hot🥵
Brutal conditions.
Hissan's right leg had a higher knee drive than her left leg for most of the race (until she went into sprint mode at the end, where I couldn't tell).
edit: Hassan
Hassan executing one of the greatest feats since Kipchoge's sub 2-hour exhibition - unbelievably good for the sport and I hope it sets a precedent of athletes pushing their bar higher and higher.
I am gutted for Gidey! Heading into the race, I wondered if all of Hassan's racing helped her acclimatize to the conditions better and despite the obvious fatigue seen at the end there, could that have given her the edge? Gidey will come back and break 29 in Brussels
