For those saying she wasn't acclimated to the heat, a reminder that she won the trials in 95+ heat.

Humidity > heat.
That said, Boston has more humidity than Oregon (and Boulder… and Flagstaff… etc etc etc).
Jake Reilly did summer training in Virginia. Smart man.
Let's answer this one now that we know:
From Jon Gault's excellent Millrose Preview —
"Early in that Trials race, Purrier St. Pierre had been shoved to the infield, causing her foot to twist awkwardly. It developed into an injury, and Purrier was barely able to train for the next month: she would not step on a track again until her arrival in Tokyo, which helps explain why she only finished 10th in the final."
As I've said consistently and still believe, Purrier would've been competitive for a medal in Tokyo in her Trials-winning form. The fact that she finished 10th and was a non-factor was due to an injury not some weird 3:58.0 PB only stuff or huge gulf between her and anyone else.

First, Elle is from the North. There's no tropical heat for long stretches in Vermont.
.
Are you forgetting Purrier won the Olympic Trials in the middle of a heat wave?
Sorry to hear that she was injured at the Games but that answers some questions. Things were so screwed up for many athletes last year.
It will be GREAT to see her again come Millrose Games! What a field for that women's Wanamaker Mile!
Seems like a made up excuse, to be honest. She just choked.

Yeah, but you're moronic. Your name even cops to it. I don't think she choked at all. It's not like the US Trials was a relaxing, low-pressure environment - she had to prove herself there, and she did. I expected her to be more competitive in the Olympics, and an injury seems like a more likely explanation.
She would have done better most likely but no one outside the big 3 was coming close to a medal especially in a fast race from the go.
Something seemed off. I was surprised she was that not competitive in the final and this explains it. I'm not sold she would have medaled, but I'm looking forward to seeing where she finishes this year at Worlds. Hopefully she can have a good season and deliver a good performance! She's going to need it if she wants to get anywhere near the podium.
I wonder if she was pissed at her NB Boston teammate Heather for that injury. The field colliding definitely seems like Heathers fault if you watch it back

Exactly. The truth often lies between. She looked off and was off we now know, but still wouldn't have medaled in that race.
I'm more paissed that we never got the insane shelbo v purrier match at their peak. With JS going in a different direction/aging out and shelbo cheating, I'm fully on the purrier bandwagon.
I think she had a definite shot at a 4-6 spot, agree that medalling would be a tall orde with Kipyegon/Muir/Hassan in the mix. At the same time don't forget about 15 months before the trials she ran a 4:16 indoor mile and seemingly only got better from there, so I would give her a very slim chance of surprising. Hassan was dying the last 50 meters and if anyone else with a good kick had been in striking distance they would have had a chance at 3rd. No one was beating faith or laura that day

^^ Agree with this 100%. Let's not act like Hassan in a 1500 where she goes all out for the win can't be overtaken in the final 50 as she falters. Literally how Simpson got a medal, and maybe Purrier on her best day does the same. Muir was at another level last year and ran very smart in the final, and Kipyegon forget about it. 100% on Purrier is running in 4th/5th and who knows maybe she does some damage the last 100.
If she was injured why not sit it out and let an alternate go?

maybe she wanted to be a "real" Olympian (see threads on Nuguse)?

First, it's her right to do so. Second, she finished 10th in the final, would the alternate (Shannon Osika) have done better?
It annoys me when athletes aren't open about their health. If she didn't want to say before the final, I get it. But how is this just being disclosed 5 months later?

Good point for sure....it is annoying and weird.
I said it 5 months ago that she had to have an injury because she was not the same at the Olympics. Sucks that was the case, but good in her for showing up at the Olympics and giving it a try anyway.
I didn't think she was the type to be a head case, so this claim that she was injured makes total sense. She was much better than she showed in the Olympics earlier in the season.
Just asking....how much racing was done by our 1500m women between the trials and the OG?
