Pretty atrocious.
Hocker is our only hope
He has to make the final, which he has an ultra slim chance of doing.

OH no!
I hadn't even realised it.
These games are weird but at the same time interesting.
We've lost both steeplechase races. I'd never have imagined that.
My entire life, we've won all steeples we've participated in in the Olympics.

He is not in McSweyn's semi. McSweyn has said he;'ll make it 3.33 or so (without specifying times).
Semi 1 Wightman, Simotwo, Hocker, Souleimann, Hoare, Cheruiyoit, Lewandovski
Semi 2 McSweyn, Jakob, Centro, Kipsang, Kerr, Zeleke.
I think semi 1 is tougher. I'm tipping top 5 to be Hocker, Hoare, Cheruiyoit, Lewandovski and Wightman/Simotwo.
There is a trend. All the Letsrun championship previews(written by Jonathan Gault) have picked against Hocker to win. Well guess what? He’s won all of his championship races in electrifying fashion . And here we go again, another championship preview of going against Hocker for the win.

USA women have proven to be mentally tough, except for that one person in another sport that we won't mention. The men have been epic chokeaholics. I think Norman and Cherry will go 1, 2 and I do believe Rupp has a shot at bronze. Seeing the racewalkers struggle with the conditions means it's going to go tactical and that is good news for Rupp. US men not dead yet.
I generally think after the rounds that Hocker can medal I have been doubting im and he has silenced me he can medal not a sure thing but he has a shot
2nd place in heat 1 3:33.87 EASILY for hocker
Looks like Cole Hocker deserves to be in the final. He looks like a potential medalist.
Centro is out :( guess the 3:49 mile indicated he wasn't gonna hang in a 3:31/2 race lol.

Hocker looked good in semi, but his tactics has me worried. Decently quick race and Jakob looked like he was on a warmup jog. If Hocker thinks he’s going medal by kicking from 400 out, he’s still likely to miss the medal, because Jakob and Timothy will be going from 500 out, and if you’re not near the front you’re out of luck.
Hocker can’t sit back for 3/4 of the race and be in a position to medal.

Well sh!t, I sure got that wrong.
The chokeaholics continue.
Interestingly.
Katie Nageotte spoke about how she had to work on her mental toughness and how that is what has helped her. (Unlike other athletes that we won't mention)
USA women are killing it!
Until you flip like a gold medalist get over yourself!!😡

I’ll take my L and accept it. Hocker took advantage of being in the slower heat, did what he had to.

Bold move to post that after the race. Guess you weren’t confident enough to do it before the race.
Hocker’s hardly a guaranteed medal threat but looks promising and likely to medal in the Olympics 1500 in the future if not this year.

Hocker is a phenomenal rising talent, however I don't think he'll medal. We need to make sure he makes the final first which he isn't a lock. And it all depends on how the race he runs and how the race itself is ran. If it's slower and all that racing hasn't burnt him out his chances definitely go up, however everyone can kick out there. Should be a great race for sure.
you’re the type of person who said he’s out in the first round
Leave the kid alone.
He has plenty of his own expectations, he doesn’t need ours. His season looks like it’s been better than anyone’s on this page.
NCAA/Trials wins makes for a pretty solid year. If he adds gravy, so be it. If not, we’ll forever be able to see that acceleration from 130 out against the country’s best pros.
Nice job, Cole
