Unfortunately, none of them will medal.

American distance running is obviously doing something right. So much less talent than East Africa but able to put three into the finals. Other countries should take note of the training that Americans are doing. These guys were running 14:30 at 18 years old while other world class runners were running 13:10 at the same age. The US training system is obviously able to get more out of runners than other systems.
It's not just the Americans.... its runners that go through the NCAA system. They race more and they learn how to run well in tactical races and run many races in a weekend. Its why we do better at meets like this than in Diamond League meets.

You realise that the American [Paul] Cheplimo grew up in Kenya and only went to the USA as college student? Much like the Bor brothers, etc?

Yeah good luck trying to get Chelimo to do something like that.
Chelimo must be the most hated distance runner. I though he might be DQ’d for putting his arm around Katir before the finish. I mean wtf is he doing?
According to Scott BTC doesn’t lead they rely on there closing speed (read front page 5k summary) so why are you blaming Chelimo. The other two BTC won’t help out front per their teammate.
Also the final has 6 runners trained in American. Pretty good considering so many post on here about American distance running sucking.

Dude is such a doosh on the track.

Good to have all three in the final.
But only Chelimo looked good.
Looks like a duel between him and Katir
Seriously? Woukd you trust Chelimo for one minute to fulfill his part of running as a team? He’s out the first sign of something not benefiting him. We’ve all had teammates and friends like this.
why should Chelimo help them? It's track. If you want a team sport go watch rowing.
The men's steeples was a bust, but otherwise Americans have done great in the tactical rounds..
M5,000: 3/3 men's into the finals
W5,000: 2/3 with Schneider a close miss
W3KST: 3/3 (2 Auto Qs, Constien made it comfortably knowing what she neede)
M1500: 2/2 into the Semis with Auto Q
W1500: 3/3 into the Semis (McGee was only one who struggled a bit)
M800: 3/3 to Semis, 1 in finals (Jewett fall unlucky, Hoppel maybe too bold as far as leading, a tactic he didn't do in the NCAAs)
W800: 3/3 to Semis, 2 in finals (Wilson clearly dealing with injuries)
Yes but I treat him like any other American rather than make a distinction like you are doing. What is untrue that I stated?
Fact: That's a DQ for Chelimo when he put an arm around Katir before the finish.
I wouldn’t put too much weight on Fisher jogging at the end - he knew he was in on time.
Also, real Americans love Chelimo. It’s only soft sissy soybois who whine about him.
It's crazy that Katir was the prerace betting favorite to win. I thought only hard-core running fans knew how good he was. I was hoping to nab him at high odds but he ended up as the pre race favorite. Do the odds makers read this message board? There's a chance they do. It was between Katir and Cheptegai for me and I took Cheptegai for the win. I think Kiplimo and an Ethiopian at least had better odds than Cheptegai pre race. I chose Cheptegai over Katir because although Katir has looked great and you know he's riding the dope train, he hasn't really won anything against a world class field. That may change in the final. They need to drug test that man.
I don’t like how Chelimo races. He’s clearly too insecure. Just shut up and run dude

Chelimo: Born October 27, 1990 (age 30 years), Iten, Kenya.

I saw a Bahraini athlete was added to the 15 after he fell in his heat. I wonder if Ebenyo of Kenya will be a 17th finalist?

Sarcastic and condescending answers like this bug the shît out of me.

I wonder if Fisher didn't have the kick to get an auto Q or if he cruised in knowing he had the time qualifier. Got to think he'll outrun Woody in the final, but Chelimo probably best bet for top american.
I think he knew he was in with time
I doubt because of weather it goes much faster than 13:15. I say probably 13:17 wins the gold
