i like degrasse and his consistency is impressive, but dont see how anyone could say he is the favorite now with the way kenny and noah can and have run recently. knighton is faster too.

He did just run the fastest 200 of 2021 while easing off the last 10 meters.

I've seen dumber things in my life than Olympic athletes jeopardizing their positions by jogging in a tight heat, but not many dumber things. And they do it again and again and again. And again.
And again.
Having bet Bednarek at +500 in Vegas last week, I welcome this development.
Lyles also looked vulnerable in the Trials in the heats and semis next to Boy Wonder, but stepped up bigly in the final. Maybe this f-up will give hm the adrenaline headrest to nail the final here too.
so much slander in this thread just for him to likely still win the gold LOL. He's peaking at the right time and don't be surprised when he runs a 19.6 and medals

Yeah I thought he looked fantastic in the Semis outside of the first 20 meters maybe and then easing off.
Lane 3 is not his preferred position, but neither was lane 8 for WVN. I feel like the whole year has been him being pushed out of his comfort zone and seeing how he fares. So far, he's come up big. I expect a 19.6x from him and a Gold. His big challenge will be not pressing when inevitably he is in 4th or 5th with 100 meters to go.

Knighton is for sure the future of men's sprinting.
"If" he sticks with it. He is an outstanding wide receiver and being courted by all the top college programs including Alabama, LSU, etc. With the the courts ruling against the NCAA, a guy like Knighton can play college football and potentially make incredible money on the side with endorsements. Most likely far more money than he can make as a pro track athlete.

Sure he can make more money and also spend it dealing with the brain injury he will most likely get.

Sure, that possibility stops people from pursuing the riches of football all the time. Or basically never!
Knighton playing NCAA football is incredibly dumb. If he wants to pursue football he can ride it out until he's 100% physically mature after the LA olympics, resume training for the league and enter the Supplemental Draft (or whatever) in 2025 (age 21)/2026 (age 22). NIL is great, but his Adidas contract pays huge money, and he will start getting major endorsements soon if he medals this year or next. He's too young to be rushing to prep for the NFL anyway.

Maybe he will step up and throw down a 19.6. I see no evidence of this however and my gut tells me he will not medal.
I called the W100M winner
I called the W200M winners perfectly correct
I called the W200M winner time almost perfectly correct. I had ETH winning in 21.57
I called the 400MH correct though not the time
I am going to go with my gut. I do not have Lyles to win. He needs Nike spikes to pull one out. He doesn't have any and he's got a lane which is not his preferred. I just don't see it.

What you and I think is moot. He would be in a very long line of exceptional sprinters who gave up track for football. Add in the fact that college athletes are now clear to receive sponsorship money while in school and it becomes even more enticing for many.
I would also like to see Knighton find his potential in track but if he gives it up for football I will not be surprised in the least.

Of course it doesn't. Just like the majority of companies are concerned only about the short term and live to regret it. History is littered with beaucoup examples of both types. One more would hardly make a difference.

It's the American arrogance thing. He could have global acclaim. But of course this is not more important than having American acclaim as a football player. SMH.

Ridiculous - so stupid. Why would you let up with 5 meters to go in n a semi final? Especially when there are 2 guys right beside you. You are not Usain Bolt 10m clear of everyone. What.a.tool.
Yeah, I will never understand this. How much energy did he save by letting up in the last 5 m? When I was a kid and first started running I was always told to "run hard through the finish line". Yet time and time again we see professional runners making this basic mistake.

I wouldn't be surprised at age 21 maybe as I wrote. The fact is he is 3+ years from playing pro football for major money. He will get paid as much or more as a track athlete in this span while not risking his long-term health for a college team and associated sponsors that will discard of him if anything goes wrong. Nobody advising him at the moment including his sponsor Adidas would want him playing football until after LA.
