Did someone tell Infeld and Goucher that they couldn't medal before they medaled?

Ok, my post was sort of obnoxious. They both great for American distance runners, and they can spend their time and lives as they wish and earn a living any way they want. And no, I certainly cannot run as fast as Cranny or Schweizer and never could, but I also did not choose to become a pro and devote my life to running.
If you really are an old man, there were no pro track contacts avaliable during your prime. Even if there were, you made the right choice.

I do think Karissa is not where she was last year.
I agree. It really does make me wonder if, err, the burrito consumption has gone down since you-know-who 'ate' you-know-what. I suppose Grant (and Moh)'s performances in the 10,000m don't confirm this suspicion, but I still do wonder....
I can't help but agree. BTC have been on fire for a few years, then especially last year. One athlete busted and.... mediocre performances. I have never believed the burrito story, but thought maybe the rest of the team was clean. I have to say, their complete defence of Shelby (as though they somehow know everything about her life??) and decline in performance seem odd.
Let's also not forget, they rarely race, and love a time trial where they know testers won't be.
They seemed to be able to peak in winter for those TT but unable to do so for the Oly. Would be interesting to understand Jerry's approach this time

I think they actually ran well. 14:55 at 85 degrees and 90% humidity is worth well faster. Probably not a PR effort for Schweizer but certainly the best 5000 Cranny has ever run all things considered. She can probably go 14:30 low later this year if she chases it in good conditions.
So an existential question for nearly all American distance runners....what's the point? If your best is so far off a global medal, and you have no chance of every closing the talent gap, why bother? There are probably easier ways to earn a living.
Yeah, “talent gap.” Bread, water, and talent to go 29:01. Please.
What is the point of anyone running. Few people ever win races and only a handful will ever medal. You must not run.
So when we get 0 medals in these games in any distance events are the fans just supposed to congratulate them on "a good effort" and leave it at that? This is a great example of why T&F cannot breakthrough in the mainstream here in USA... We're just supposed to be satisfied with mediocre results on the worlds biggest stage and continue supporting and lifting them up in the media when all these distance runners get their asses handed to them.
They shouldn't even expect a contract without a medal at world championships or olympics, that's how it is for East Africans and makes them the best!
This was the standard out-of-it-next-to-teammate giving it all thing at the end.
These two were only there to measure how much the front group was slowing, or speeding up. I guess their world is structured TT efforts with friends.

Maybe that's the problem. They spend all their time chasing fast times in ideal conditions instead of getting comfortable running against faster runners in all types of conditions.
too many backyard barbeques at Jerry's house. They are Time Trial Specialists.

No, what we do on LRC is complain about burrito gate, then get mad no one medals. We follow that up by pretending Hassan is clean and that our athletes are just genetically inferior.
It is the way.

What a poor effort from both.
Poor effort? And Simone Biles let her team down, right?
I'm sure their effort was the best they could give under the circumstances of adjusting to a huge time zone difference, the whole covid response to the athlete's village, etc. The heat and humidity .....
Great effort.
No. This was a very poor effort. They never even made an effort to compete. They were never in a position to respond to any potential moves. I am sure they were not good enough to medal, but they should have at least made an effort to compete with the top women.
What they shod have done after being dropped the first time and catching back up is go right around to the front and try to push the pace. Then battle like hell with the best runners for as long as possible.
Still fast but have not been running anywhere close to their times before burritogate. Wonder why?
Burrito babes go Home DEVASTATED
Cranny was only 8 seconds off her personal best in tough conditions.
Besides the African's (I don't care what people say, they are specially gifted) I would say that our two ladies today are better than most of the rest of the world.

Bowerman is probably under more suspicion after Jerry very obviously lied about never hearing about Deca. If his other athletes were doping like Shelby, they probably stopped for the time being, hence Karissa not being even close to where she was in 2020.
You nailed it.
No drugs means No performance and No confidence
Karissa has run 14:26 and is the 14th fastest woman ever at the distance. She just finished 11th and fell off as soon as the pace went sub 3 min Ks. Why? Because she found out that The Burrito Track Club is a fraud and not competitive on a World stage without drugs.

... better than most of the rest of the world when they get the "burritos."
so what should we have a different medal ceremony for "non-Africans" and say Americans are best?
Karissa hasn't looked like herself in 2021 overall. I had hopes that she'd peak for the Olympics, but, to me, she always looks exhausted. Her legs do not have that pop in them that they did watching her race in 2019 and 2020. Taking the "think the best in people" stance, I don't think this is a dopping vs. no longer dopping scenario. Almost all of the Bowerman Babes have raced poorly in 2021... I believe Jerry tried to keep the team up at altitude longer than he has ever done before. Several of the ladies left early due to exhaustion from altitude, and many of them did not race well at trials. Could Schweizer be just incredibly worn down from Jerry's training? Same goes for Cranny, except I do agree with a previous poster's point that this was actually on par performance given Cranny's PR.
There was a recent podcast with Schweizer where she said she had a tough time not having Shelby in races and workouts. I think she took the ordeal especially hard because she used Shelby to pace her, etc. She had said many times in the past that she attributes a lot of her success to Shelby. I think it's natural for her to take a dip in performance. Infeld kind of slammed Jerry in her recent podcast (in the sense that he's a poor communicator and he overtrained them). I think Jerry has some strengths as a coach, but I think a lot of his team ends up overtrained and injured throughout the season. I have to say, the NB women seem stronger and ready to go in Tokyo and they had a lot less injuries than our friends at BTC.
