Looking at the semis coming up, heat 1 looking like a tall order for Hocker but I think he will likely make it 4-5th or time qualifier. No one from heat 2 gets in off time so top 5 matters. Centro still looks like the favorite to make it into finals in heat 2. I see 2 guys (McSweyn and Jakob) in heat 2 who can beat centro at his game but everyone else likely won't out do him and even if they do top 5 for big Q is expected. As much as I like willis, he likely wont have the closing speed to get in on auto q. If final goes out in anywhere around 55-56 for 400s, expect Jakob to be victorious. If it goes out in 60+, Hocker will be the favorite to snag a medal
Nick Willis at age 38 advancing to the semis is just a huge credit to the man himself. Legendary! Really hope he makes it into the final. He is the master of tactical races so wouldn't suprise me at all.

As much as everyone and myself want Willis, being in heat 1 doesn't help his cause seeing as heat 1 will likely be 3:33-3:35 to make finals where as heat 2 will be 3:36 seeing as centro always gets to the front and slows down pace.
Agree. Hard to judge what his potential is at this point. Honest question--has Hocker run a 1500 or mile in the last year in which he couldn't handle the pace and has been gapped?
For those saying he's a nonfactor--you might be right but if I'm Tim or Jacob I'm aware of Hocker's kick and I'm going to race accordingly. I'd say that makes him a factor even if he doesn't medal.

I take your point generally, and I like this analogy, but I have a friendly amendment. Instead of saying Hocker is like a rookie QB who's won the SB, wouldn't it be better to say he's like a rookie QB who's won a division title, and has made it through the first rounds of the playoffs? The question now is whether he's going to make it through the playoffs to the SB, and if he does, whether he'll win the Big One.
Agree or not?

Yeah this is a very silly analogy because the super bowl is the equivalent of winning a gold medal in the Olympics (for this analogy).

These semifinals gonna be super exciting. I somewhat agree wht your picks, but I also believe that Hocker will make it in Heat 1 and Kerr in Heat 2.
Some big and / or promising names will not make the final.
Oh yeah, and Debjani + Hoare are also in this. Damn.
What time is this epic matchup of the very slow and very fast?

A non-factor unless the final goes at Centro pace. IF it does (and you know he's going to try), this can easily go Centro/Hocker, or Hocker/Centro, then anyone's guess.
True, if it goes Rio 2.0 it's a crapshoot. That's a big IF. How many in the field are going to let that happen AGAIN. It's more likely that Hocker will only need to worry hanging on.
Can we just put this talk to bed. If McSweyn is in the final, as is likely, it will be an honest pace. I can tell you that now.

No way that McSweyn will accept a slow pace. Semifinale 2, 7 of them will go to the final and Centrowitz might be one of them, even among the first 5. Hocker, on the other hand, is not guaranteed at all to get to the final. But I think Robert Franken can do it.
Sorry, Robert Farken.
