I think I know what you are talking about. The thrower released the hammer only halfway across the circle with much less than full effort and he just walked out the front of the ring to foul so it wouldn't be measured. He simply asked her, "What happened?" and she did not say a word. It was definitely an awkward few seconds.
I hate to cut on announcers but she is just not doing nearly as well as I thought she would considering her experience in the throws. It seems like she is an expert on the shot but lacks knowledge of the other throwing events. She needs to do more homework to be the "expert" announcer for the throws. I had the pleasure of working the shot put at HS nationals years ago when she competed and I remember her as a very pleasant and mature HS athlete to work with.
