2 intensely risky 800m qualifying races in a row. Is he the GOAT tactician or is he getting insanely lucky with the seas parting in front of him last minute, two races in a row?
Seems he either knows exactly how to play the field
OR
Seems he has no idea where to position himself and is skating on some extremely thin ice
Murphy is lucky that he had openings at the ends of the two races.
But he is smart to not run too much extra distance wide in the 2nd or 3rd lane around the turns in order to get around other runners. He is also smart to not go too fast the first 700 and burn himself out.
Unless you are the clear number one in the race and run from the front from start to finish, to medal in the 800 you need good tactics and some luck. So far Murphy has had both.
