Equal to bolt and slightly behind Coleman
I thought when I was watching it he must have hit 6.34-6.36 through 60m and it turned out he split 6.35.
Coleman 9.76 3.77
Bolt 9.58 3.78

Crazy, that really was the start of his life
Is there an official split for 60? After Coleman he might honestly be the best starter in the world. The only problem is he needs that start because he doesn’t have good speed endurance (according to his coach, Randy Cunningham, they don’t go beyond 120m in training because, I believe he said, longer work tends to get him injured)
That’s absurd…too bad he couldn’t replicate in final
I forget, what was BJ in 9.83 or 9.79, something like 6.34?
Someday I might have the stomach to watch the race, preferably a non-US broadcast.

I believe Ben Johnson went through 60m in 6.33 in '88 (with +1.3 wind)

Correct
Bump. Do we know for sure what Su hit for 60m? I thought I saw somewhere he may have hit 6.29, is that possible?
Pretty sure it was 6.35 6.29 wouldn't add up his topend would have to be like .83 for 10m or faster.
Have you been able to find any ten meter splits from any of those races? I haven’t had any luck
Not recent ones, but I know where to find ones from 2019 and before
This is where I saw that, though it’s probably not accurate
Its possible the 3.73 is correct pj vazel tends to have accurate splits. All of those numbers don't seem to unrealistic

Yeah that caught my eye. Could this have been the fastest 60 ever?
Also, short interview with his coach after the 9.83

I was shocked when I saw that race, he put a gap on baker who is a 6.40 guy and a great starter himself.
Feels like Japan and China's investment into starting technique is really really starting to pay off. Perhaps an east Asian runner under 9.8 by Paris? At this point all they need to do is improve consistency, Su had a terrible start in the finals that cost him, although I am still very impressed he ran 9.98 all things considered.
Huntington confirms my suspicion that the false start rattled Su in the final (and states he should have better prepared him for such). Also confirms that Su left most of his final in that semi
Thanks for sharing. It was a rather unfortunate move for Hughes. He blames it on a calf cramp that hit him in the set position. It's a very tough situation psychologically for any athlete who is reliant on their start like Su.
Ooof, that really sucks for Hughes. They really need to change to false start rules back to one warning.
