Devil’s advocate: Jacobs has been running great all year. He’s Euro champion. He was a semi-finalist at Worlds in 19. He didn’t really come out of nowhere.
Yeah, the rapid progression is a bit suspect, but, 9.8 isn't a stupid time, it's pretty mediocre and someone should have been able to step up to a 9.7 in the Olympic final. I'm looking at this a bit like that Kim Collins gold at World's - others not bringing their A game when it mattered
Better times than 2016 and all Olympic before 2004. He would have ran 9.7 with more than +.1.
9.80 at almost 27 from 10.03 just 2 years ago is beyond insane

9.80 is mediocre? It is tied for 10th all time.

That is your ENTIRE LIST of guys that have run 9.80 or faster without wind aid. Four guys that have never been suspended. Several that did it wind aided.
This Tokyo track is wayyyy faster than that Rio track, at least by 0.1, top 3 all set PBs in the final and Baker and Su set PBs in the semis.
While your waiting get your fat butt of the couch and do something with your life instead of slagging of people who have more talent in their left nipple than you do in your entire existence.
I thought it was just standard operating procedure that everyone who is in the 100m final is “on a level playing field”.

True. But it is actually an arms race. It's a bit like beating the gun - but getting away with it.
