It looks arbitrary. Wouldn't that imply if two runners have no chance of qualifying they could collude, trip on purpose and one gets to the final? Makes no sense. Just as with the no-DQ for the US mixed relay, looks totally arbitrary.

The Japanese know this and rightfully kicked him our of the Games and shipped his black ass back to Africa. Where he belongs in the jungle.
Umm what the hell?
I watched this live and the first thing I thought was "oh $hit Amos tripped him" - which when they showed about 2-3 different angles on the live feed after the race was exactly what happened. I then texted a buddy and we were both in agreement that Jewett will be very fortunate and get a pass to the final, too bad for Amos.
I go back to bed (watched the race at 4.30am PST), wake up and read AMOS is in the final and Jewett isn't? Uhhh, what?
Some of the comments are even more ridiculous then Amos getting reinstated - especially the "Jewett just tripped over his own feet" BS I'm reading. Can someone explain to me how Jewett causes this? There is absolutely no illegal move from Jewett at all. He is on the rail and was at a very minimum right there from the 600m point.
For f-cks sake go and watch this carefully, if you can't see this some of you need to go get your eyes checked - Amos runs slightly up the back of Jewett (and no, not badly) but on one of Jewetts strides when he is nearly fully extended with his trail leg, Amos's starts extending his lead lead and the sole of Jewetts foot get's stopped by the top of Amos's shin. What it is is incredibly bad luck and timing - you very rarely see that happen in a situation where there is still considerable space between runners, but it's what happens.
The point being, it's really hard to put blame on anyone here because there were no dramatic changes in the lanes - but if anyone is to blame it's unfortunately Amos. He comes up behind Jewett ever so slightly and when you are in front and you don't make any move across your lane it is the responsibility of the runners behind you not to clatter into your way in any way, it's that simple. So Amos is the one that causes Jewett to fall, then falls over him, lodges a protest he knows he's not going to win and he get's reinstated?! Did team USA lodge a protest for Jewett? I've never an incident like this, where there is clearly so little movement (either acceleration/deceleration and/or across a lane) , the runners so separated from each other (comparative to a super tight pack) and the guy in front being tripped and then held responsible for the incident. Absolute f--king madness here?!

Unfortunately, Hoppel tweeted the following:
"Official inside source says the initial clip was “just a part of racing” and then Isaiah’s body became an impediment to Amos"
I agree in principle either both of them should advance or none. I think given that they already bent the rules once for team USA (taking back DQ in mixed relay), they felt like they need to balance it out. Plus there seems to be a bias pro favorites.
Amos caused it. He was running too close to Jewett and it was his contact that tripped him. Even if there wasn't a fall his chances of making the first two were slim. He would have "drowned" over the last 40m. I wouldn't mind seeing him take another fall in the final.
This one stinks all the way up to the luxury box where some bureaucrats decided to put Amos in the final.

I don't really understand the "no one is at fault argument " because Amos was the one running too close. If anyone should advance its Jewett, but not both of them.
The big question is why wasn't Jewett disqualified. Amos advances because he was interfered by another athlete? Where's the DQ?

Good inside information, but why is it such a secret? Is there still an active appeal? Why no official explanation? If the first part of the incident is just part of racing, then so is the second. If it stands as is, totally bogus ruling.

You clearly don't understand 800m racing.
Amos would have followed Rotich and probably Q.

You’re kidding. Jewett’s right foot clips Amos’s knee. Blatant. Amos too close behind.
I slo-moed it over and over. Watch Jewett’s right foot.
Yeah, but Jewett changed lanes in front of Amos. Apparently he didn't get a full stride in front of Amos before cutting in and his foot hit Amos' leg. Amos did nothing on purpose. It is the fault of the person cutting in when they don't have enough room to move in. Amos has the right to his lane without having to break stride.
It is common place that runners cut other runners off and it appears everyone's opinion is that the cuttee has to break stride. But the fault always should be on the cutter when a fall is caused. Just because Jewett was out of arm reach of Amos doesn't mean he has room. The rule is a stride for a reason. It was awful close and a very unlucky for both as it didn't look like much, but at that speed was enough to cause Jewett to fall.
Not unheard of by the rules. So, not understanding LETSRUN's complaint on this one. If Amos' appeal could show he had established his position and Jewett interfered with his established running lane then the fault lies with Jewett. Since Jewett's changing lanes caused Amos to fall. He is the one getting promoted to the final. Jewett's case is less since he was the one changing lanes.

Amos out- there is some justice.
LOL no.
Coevett probably has directly ejaculated after Amos' fall - and looked for the next train after seeing him in the final.
If the positions had been reversed Jewett would have been at fault and they would have moved Amos on. It’s just the way it is with certain athletes being treated with kid gloves for political reasons that extend far beyond the sport itself. At the very least Jewett should be in the final. Amos has made a career of bumping people and cutting them off but it’s never mentioned. Look at Amos in the 2017 WC final. He did all he could to rattle the guys around him and it backfired.
just have one event for biggest cry baby

No, he wouldn't. Amos often carries a piano in the home straight. Rotich "jogged" past the guys in front of him, who were absolutely flat-out. He would have left Amos for dead.
As Rojo mentioned earlier, what does the appeal process look like in situations like this. Could this all come down to whoever is lobbying Amos's case to be advanced made a stronger case than whoever was pounding the table for Jewett. Or, was anyone even in the room or wherever making a case for Jewett. Would Rose Monday be the one making the case for Jewett? Would either of the head coaches for Team USA track & field teams, Michael Holloway or Rose Monday have a seat at the table in the appeal process?
Jewett wasn't changing lanes. They were running in the same lane when there was contact. But he started to slow and Amos was too close to him running behind him.
They are both in if this is legit?
