Italians might be white by European definition, but remember USA operates the 'one drop' rule. So much so that Spanish people are categorised as "Hispanic" and not "White" on the census.
So if Spanish people aren't white, then neither are Italians.
Also the comment of the world becoming a melting pot - maybe in the UK (in particular London) is. But other countries and cities lag far behind. For example New York is 90% just whites and blacks, and largely socially segregated. You walk around and if there's a non-white person they're likely to be of African heritage. Where's the bengali, Indian or Pakistani quarters? Where's the Turkish and Middle Eastern immigrants? Sure there's some, but it's not noticeable.
The British national dish is Tikka Masala. Our best football song is Vindaloo. That's the level of integration that simply isn't really found elsewhere.
And whilst there's poor integration, the idea of this coming out in the wash anytime soon is just a dream.
