Why? They tied. If two athletes in the 100 tied they would both get gold. (and yes it is possible. I have been a finishlynx operator for years and have seen a tie, down to the same pixel line). Why break the tie just because you can? They both jumped well, both beat everyone else, and both went out at the same time. They had the exact same result.
I'd have no problem with the shared gold. But it should not be up to the athletes to decide. Either the rules say that there should be a tiebreak (jumpoff) or they don't. But why should the athletes get to pick one or the other? What if one wants a jumpoff and the other one doesn't?
