If he'd really hammered this heat and sucked in the next round, you guys would be saying how dumb that decision is too. It was an honest mistake with a strat that usually would have worked, but sometimes, like in the olympics, the competition is just good enough that a full effort is needed every round.
Too generous to him. He let down from 200-300. That was where it was OK to give his incomplete effort. Once he saw he was not safe at 100 to go there was no excuse to coast any of the last 100.
It was definitely a bad strategy as the heat wasn’t fast enough where finishing fourth wasn’t fast enough to be the 6 fastest to move forward.
It stinks for him and feel bad. It was a terrible strategy but still feel bad for him. But if he wasn’t able to coast to get out of first round, he may have not been feeling his best to do well in semis and finals.
Track and field is such a cruel sport. Your biggest race only comes around every 4 years. Your moment could end just as easily by false start or tripping a hurdle. It’s what makes it great to watch but gotta be tough for these athletes.
It makes me appreciate more of accomplishments set by someone like Bolt to dominate for so long.
