Recently I stayed at small (and fancy) hotel which has a restaurant for serving the breakfast (included). There was only one waiter which is enough since there is something like a 3h span for eating the breakfast (based on the small number of guests).
The hotel has a few employees so was not the same waiter everyday. One morning I arrive in the restaurant and I noticed that there was another waiter than previous day. I sat down at a table waiting for my order to be taken. Meanwhile the waiter noticed my presence and ignored me. Was passing near my table multiple times without stopping to take my order. This got to the point when I looked at my watch and said to myself that in 5 minutes I leave if the waiter is not taking my order.
Finally (there were 2 minutes left on the watch), the waiter came, says good morning and just asks straight wat I want to eat. I said what I want to eat and I had to mention that also I want one coffee. What a win, after 10 minutes of waiting the waiter took my order.
Shortly, other quests (a family) came to the restaurant. In less that a minute (they even hadn't the time to sat down) the waiter was right there to them giving them a warm welcome. There was even small talk and the waiter asked them if they want coffee before taking the order for food.
This was not something isolated and I noticed the entire time I spent in the restaurant that the waiter had a more nice attitude with other guests.
The only explanation I can think for this is that the waiter was treating the guests based on clothing and accessories. I was wearing sport clothing (a t-shirt from a race), I had my Fenix 3 on the wrist (I assumed this can look like a big cheap watch for many peoples). The other guests were wearing casual clothes (some expensive brands), also some well above the average cars were parked in front of the hotel. It seems that based on this those peoples got the label important.
I didn't stayed too many days at the hotel to see if also other employees are behaving the same. Can this be a hotel policy on how guests are treated or is only something on that employee?
