THIS ^^ Absolutely. What the hey?? Is everyone on this thread still a teenager? These kind of OBVIOUS team tactics have been employed forever. Helen Obiri admitted that she & her two teammates will employ team tactics on Monday in order to ensure the best outcome for Kenya. And yes, I do believe this violates the spirit of the law.

The Ugandans knew a fast pace race was key to them winning gold as our boys, the Ethiopians can out kick them.
They employed a pace maker who stepped off the track and stopped his watch. Clearly a pace maker. That is against the rules.
Barega had to chase down an illegal pace maker , rejoin the main group and come back to win. Some effort. Clearly has an engine and a half.
We Ethiopians own distance racing. Mo F and was drugged up to his eye balls to deny us glory and now Sifan. Both Salazar stable.
Ethiopia and East Africa cannot be touched when it comes to distance racing.
Barega is going to get a hero's welcome in Addis...Whoooooooohooooooooo

Girma will win the 3,000 steeplechase on Monday and more golds to come
I hate ethiopians!
Sounds like a personal problem.
I wrote all of that and messed up my first two words.
What was done in this race was NOT illegal.
If you qualified for the race, you can go to the front, set the pace and drop out.
Qualifying for the Olympic final is the hard part.
Most rabbits aren’t good enough to get in the race they are rabbitting.

Watch what the Kenyans do to Jim Ryan.
https://youtu.be/Q_9AAy7yZTcThe guy on the broadcast said it was illegal tactics. He was wrong, bit that is why so many people are saying it was illegal.
I'd be interested to know why he dropped, but he wasn't going fast enough to suggest he was outside of himself.
Is he in the 5000? Otherwise seems odd to drop out since many still consider finishing at the Olympics an accomplishment even if he the pace was too much.
Maybe he heard a bell.
My apologies to Jim Ryun for spelling his name wrong in my first thread..
Kenyans are well known for Team tactics. I don’t have a problem with it.
They still have to have enough talent to stack the final.
Dealing with boxing, position, and tactical pacing is part of the game from 800 up - with or without teammates cooperating.
Canadian Triathletes used it to good result in the 2008 Olympics - it was new and controversial then.
It’s a given in cycling.
Deal with it and win - or lose and whine.
Better than F1 where half the time big head drivers would rather sabotage their teammates than help then win.
