That's statement isn't even worthy of being called sophistry.

Your 100% correct about her clothes. She’s got those goat slides too. I was referring to her demeanor in interviews. She’s pretty unassuming given her stature. By all accounts she’s a great teammate too. She literally saved Chiles’ career. I would be shocked if any of them are upset with her, even in private. She is the goat no matter what transpires this week. My sincere hope is that she comes back and dominates.

Boomer quit in Korea?
Most were like 3 years old at the time boyo.....how can throw that responsibility on them?
Repeating the same lie over and over won't make it true.
Simone Biles is a human being and is worthy of compassion, she should not be hated as a person for her decision.
But she's not the GOAT.
Was one of the greatest moments in Olympic history. She is so brave. A heroic WOC standing up against this racist, oppressive country. I LOVE YOU, SIMONE!

Why are all these us athletes (Osaka is us) having so many mental issues? Same with our nba stars. Too much time on social media?
I dunno, but maybe a once in a lifetime pandemic that is still ongoing, worldwide upheaval, nationwide lock-downs, a steady diet of negative media news, social isolation and routine disruption has something to do with it.[/quote]
What would have happened if our men had "mental issues" and decided not to storm the beaches of Normandy? What about the firefighters who ran into the World Trade Center to save lives?
Biles just had to play a sport, and she couldn't. Pathetic.

So brave, yes, but don't you mean "POC"?
After all, gender is just a social construct now, right?
And since race is a social construct, doesn't that make the acronym "POC" racist?
Somebody help me out here, I'm all confused.
Horrible coverage of the 2021 Olympic Games. (It's 2020, people.)
Did all of you whining about Biles 'not being mentally tough' forget the fact she has already won a crap ton of medals? Like, she was tough enough to win all of those but whatever she is dealing with now makes her not tough now? So she was tough enough to become the GOAT but now she sucks? Ok guys, you seriously are really that dumb I guess.
Shouldn't have tried to argue with a hungry letsrun poster trying to get his daily fill of thinly veiled misogyny and rascism in one thread.
If she got injured would that be different? You say this was in her control, but often phsycial injuries can be the result of over training. There is also a huge amount of external media pressure she's received. She has literally done the hardest moves ever and has one of the longest periods as world champion ever. If that's not a GOAT idk what is. She can still come back and win more golds for her country. Its obvious you don't follow gymnastics whatsoever but you want to opine on her status within the sport?
i imagine Mykala Skinner would have liked the opportunity to compete in Simone's place......

For her sake and the teams I really hope she doesn’t say it’s mental. The best athletes in the world are strong physically and mentally. You don’t quit because you “aren’t felling it” that day. Runners prove this with every race. It hurts every time but you get out there and finish
Well that clearly isn't the case. Biles is one of the best gymnasts in the world and she just quit. Naomi Osaka, arguably the best tennis player, quit the French Open.
Two random occurrences or do we think this younger generation that was brought up with a false sense or reality on social media can't handle adversity as well? It's sort of shocking athletes at that level all of a sudden can't handle it but shows they are human.
We probably shouldn't draw too many comparisons with 2 individuals in different sports and Biles also was abused by Nassar.
However, Ido find it interesting how they both say there is too much pressure.
They're already at the top of their sport. You'd figure they are used to it. I personally think social media plays a role.
Biles bailed. Bailed on all the sponsors that she got millions from and more importantly bailed on her team. At this point in her career she should have sucked it up and finished her competition. She just couldn’t stand the thought that she would potentially be off the podium. Using mental excuses seems to be in vogue now. It takes both physical and mental strength to be a champion. She’s not a GOAT. She’s a Prima Donna quitter

Quit team comp after the vault. Not injury related. Bet she made the decision before the comp but I think the rules require each team member to compete on at least one event.
Here we go.
First off she isn't going home. She has the All Around competition and the Individual competition. Secondly, she did have a slight ankle injury coming into the Games. Thirdly, she did say that the mental pressure was becoming a strain. I think it was a combination of the injury, along with one of the worst vaults she has ever done in a major competition and her mental state, that caused her to drop out. If the best person ever says they didn't want to be the reason to cost the team and it was best to not compete because she was totally off, then who are we to argue.

Who has won more Olympic Gold Medals and World Championship Medals than her? Who?

there would have been no shame in quitting BEFORE the mother fing olympics started so another athlete who desperately wanted that spot could have competed
everyone would have understood....24 year old...long career...mentally tired
But to wait until mid event...... puts all the focus on HER and not her teammates that got a silver medal (who deserve all the attention).
Are you calling her a liar? Are questioning her integrity? She is the one saying that she couldn't take the pressure. If you are saying that she could but she backed out for a different reason, what was it? Is she just resting so that she can do better in individual events? Did she just want to screw one of her teammates?
Her record, as Alan reported above, is better than any gymnast ever, and the difficulty of her routines is beyond category, but the U.S. media's inability to avoid the constant hyping and superlatives seems to have gotten to her. She felt the pressure, as she showed on her face after several stumbles in the prelims. She came out and said that it was a mental issue. Her coach said it was not physical. But all this greatest of all time day after day after day set the bar too high for her to handle. She clearly had a bit of a problem with her ankle or foot with the wrapping she was doing, and let's face it, no one else out there was trying twisting triples on the floor. I hate to see athletes drop out because of nerves but clearly she wasn't all there. She's risen to the occasion so many times. The media needs to stop focusing on a single athlete like this when there are so many great ones out there. In fact, in a day that the U.S. women lost the team gold in gymnastics, the U.S. pulled into the lead in the medal count, so let's have the media report on a wider variety of stories. It gets boring to do the same one all the time and it also makes it impossible for the announcers even to detail the stumbles and mistakes that the greatest of all time made.

While it's clear you are an idiot, which maybe you could be forgiven for, there is also something very seriously wrong with you. Yes, exactly, it's just a sport, so who gets hurt if she decides she can't compete? She's the one who won't get a medal. And, given the difficulty of the moves she makes, if her mind isn't in the right space, she is risking serious physical injury. Why would she risk paralysis to "play a sport"? Idiot.
