Athletes are nothing more than modern gladiators. They are there to entertain us, even dying doing so. I don't care about their health or quality of life after they retire. In fact they shouldn't retire, they should die on the field.
Interesting theory, but very difficult to prove. It sure seems consistent with the fact that 24 is rather old for an Olympic gymnast, she had nothing more to prove as she is already the greatest, and all the sponsors and media companies had a huge incentive in repeating her name and hyping her up and then letting her quit and then report on that news as opposed to not having Biles on the team at all from the get go. On the other hand, for the sake of an extreme analogy, something similarly scandalous could be said of 9/11 in that media companies like CNN had a huge incentive to keep people from flying anywhere for a few weeks and stay glued to the news 24/7.
A GOAT still has to make the trials and meet the cutoffs, so she would’ve had to be at least in Olympic qualifying fitness up until a couple months back. It is possible that she was in two minds about competing but went with the motions anyway, but Occam’s razor would suggest it rather far fetched that her sponsors already knew this was going to happen. Too much risk of news leakage in these days of electronic communication.

This is female privilege. If a male superstar in nfl or nba quit on the team in the super bowl due to mental pressure they would be vilified.
But a cute female: "Praise girl! You are always the GOAT!"
Even if she "was" the "GOAT", after this stunt she no longer can be considered the GOAT.
GOATS don't quit on their team like that.
How do you idiots not understand that unlike Brady if Simone’s head is not right and she is “lost in the air” is could actually die or live the rest of her life paralyzed??
Ishe thought she’d cost the team a medal and they’d be better off without her - not quitting on her team. Give me and f’ing break.
Hasn’t this girl done enough on the past to prove she’s a champion?? Way more than a champion than you’ll ever be dude. Sad.
what a loser and a disgrace to the USA.

I think at this point, 2 days later, it's useless to try to reason with these people.
If they don't get it at this point, it's either they're keen on trolling or they will just never get it. Don't waste your time.
The most telling thing about this situation to me is that I haven't seen a single person with any knowledge of gymnastics criticize Biles in any way. Instead, I see interviews with the gymnasts best known for persevering suggesting they were pressured/forced into taking risks that they wish they could go back and not take.
Maybe Biles should have stayed in the competition; she may have ended up paralyzed like American Julissa Gomez (who was paralyzed in a vault fall at 15 and died at age 18) or Soviet world champion Elena Mukhina, or maybe just suffered a permanent injury like the famous Kerry Strug (who didn't even need to take her 1996 jump but was coerced into it by a child molestor-enabling coach). Or maybe instead the LRC is full of thick-headed idiots who like to arm chair commentate about things they know nothing about.
Ok I've pieced this together:
Russian hackers in 2006 exposed that Biles takes the stimulant Ritalin. (And she's been taking it for 15 years straight!)
Ritalin is banned in Japan, so she had to compete without her performance-enhancing meds.
Now you might think Ritalin is some innocent drug prescribed for hyperactive kids, but it's a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. Do you know another famous Dopamine re uptake inhibitor? It's called cocaine. You can read about all the performance enhancing effects regarding focus, stamina and endurance.

This has already been pretty much established.
The sad thing is that when I ran Track and CC in HS and college (ok boomer coming), our teams had guys who ended up going to Cal Tech, Princeton, Occidental, or other top academic schools. Runners were, by and large, the smart jocks who went on to have successful lives.
Maybe there are a lot of smart runners today as well, but it's not very evident when you go by the comments on this board.
