A small running contract is better than being a top triathlete?
Vincent Luis made more than 1 million in 2019. (and they don't pay for traveling cost and everything, their sponsors and federation do, just like in running if you're really good)
And no Morgan can't catch anyone with a 15 seconds penalty and starting from the back. He's not even the best runner in the circuit.
Alex yee ran 27:51 for 10k aged 19, Luis placed 2nd at French XC championship beating European 10k champion Morhad Amdouni, and he trained for years with 3 times Olympic medalist Mahiedine Mekhissi in Reims.
He was doing ALL the sessions with him and Mekhussi himself admitted Luis was even beating him in the longer stuff sometimes. At that time he was running 2 times a day almost everyday, swimming after his morning session and training on the bike before his evening session. I'm talking a lot about this guy because I knew him personally and I know how hard he trains as a runner (used to train, before joining mola's crew). I think some of you guys are deluded, most top triathletes are running between 60 and 100 miles a week, and some of them are really great runners, who were some of the best youngsters in their country (Cassandre beaugrand is the best u18/u20 French distance runner ever and has multiple titles and national records), a lot of these young guys (and girls) could have been professional runners but they choose triathlon because they have more fun, they can get more money, and they actually have a chance at becoming the best in the world (they know they aren't going to run 26:10 or something).
And there is a lot more money in the sport than what you think, at least in Europe. They get big sponsorships from redbull, a running brand, a bike brand, and a swimming brand sometimes. And they're really famous in their country, Vincent Luis is more famous than any track and field athlete in France, except world record holder Kevin Mayer and Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie.
For exemple, Vincent Luis has 170k subscribers on Instagram, that's almost the same number as Renaud Lavillenie, and he's almost as famous as him here. (for comparison, Brazier has 50k, Centro has 104k and hocker has 27k).
And keep in mind this guy isn't even an Olympic medalist.
