Uh huh, right. That’s not all they have down to a science.
More information, please.

Its all about body composition. He's quite low but also very muscular. To call someone that trains what the average runner does in a week on a daily basis "fat" is just akward.
I'm not sure he's fat. He just developed his upper body muscle absolutely zero.

The “fat” man ran an 8:11 3k time trial with the 2nd best Norwegian triathlete in May in the midst of a 32 hour training week. They train similar to the XC skiers with hyper-polarized training. Think 8-9 minute pace running on volume days with very very hard interval days. 1200 plus training hours per year.
Half wrong.
They do focus on very easy for the easy days.
But their intervals are pretty much all threshold. They are very much about slowing down and doing higher volume intervals.
That Triathlon Show has some good interviews with their coach. All about intensity control and not going too hard
Thanks for pointing out my error. It looks like they go intense close to the peak races and threshold the rest of the year. Interesting in the the interviews with his coach that they set at 1.0 mmol of lactate for endurance training. That’s very easy FatMax training.

That’s hilarious. Fat? Some runners have a really distorted view of what fitness can look like. This guy is an incredible endurance athlete.
Yep. Not sure if it's true but on the TV broadcast they were saying he trains on average 8 hours a day. So he is clearly fit. We also forget in the triathlon it helps to be more built in the upper body for swimming and for the 40 km bike leg having a bit bigger quads will not hurt you.
Dude is not fat. He's a little guy built a bit like Bekele. But he swims so he has bigger upper body. That white suit doesn't look good on anyone.

BTW, whatever became of that bikie who selfied on youtube with a 13:10 road 5K time trial in his local park? Is he now dominating the pro track circuit?
He just won gold in the mountain biking ...

I saw him live a couple of years ago. He has a distended gut for some reason. Kind of like the bodybuilders.
Quite muscular, but not fat

I know, right? And it wasn't measured with a piece of rope and timed with a sundial. Like all tri courses, this was precisely calibrated.

If you are referring to Tom Pidcock he just won gold in MTB beating MVDP and others.

bodybuilders call that HGH gut... Granted that us more of a theory that HGH and insulin use cause it. it could also just be a result of eating a zillion calories
I've watched some of his YouTube videos and the guy has absolutely massive pecs. I couldn't believe a guy built like that could run that fast. I think he was going for a sub 28:30 road 10k at the time and didn't make the cut but still it was impressive.

I not sure which guys swam during the boat melee, but surely I'm thinking that must take a little off their relaxation.
Also, maybe this norwegian guy does more treadmill training. He couldve been humidity adjusted. Also he was wearing white, could've helped with heat.
Agree, he totally won because he wore white.
Fat? I don't think so. I think a lot of people have distorted ideas of body image.

If you go to YouTube and scroll down you’ll find him running a 5 km road race in Norway and clocking 1351 on a rolling course. Not sure about the accuracy because I don’t think it was an official race but it seems about right because I also saw another video of him running an 8:11 3000 on the track. those times gel.
Based on all of this I think he could run around 103 for a half marathon and if he devoted some months to training for a marathon he could probably run to 2:12-2:14, if not faster. The guy is a beast. He leaves no stone unturned. His weak point is the swimming.

The 8:11 was after a warmup of 5 times 1k in around 3:00, and a bunch of 400s in the 64-65 range. In a race situation he could probably run around 759 for 3000 m on the track or better. And before that track track session (where he finished with 8:11/3000) he had been on the bike. Animals.
Him and the Austrian amateur cyclist winning Olympic gold are my two favorite moments so far.
Clearly clearly doping heavily. Then again they all are so it is what it is.
To call him a "fat-man" is disgusting OP. Can't win with LRCers. He drops a performance like that and this is how you want to frame it. Talk about the race. He threw down. Yeesh.
