Don't think Thompson was suppose to drop that early with Amos. They also went out a little bit too hard however Centro didn't know any of the plan according to commentary. I think if he had better pacing, he could have either gotten it or ran 3:47.

Thompson didn’t pick on the fact that Amos was out too hard. He was running wide and tracking him like the pace was spot on. If he hugged lane 1 and gave Amos a couple strides he would lasted longer and brought Centro through in 55pt.
Exactly. Nobody could go farther than 1000m. Come on
Even with better pacing he still misses the record. His fitness is the reason he didn't run 346. But he's never been a great time trial guy, he's a fantastic championship racer.

I think he’s in 3:47 shape. 54.6 is a really bad first 440 split. Having to run 600 on your own is not great either and compounds it when you went out way too hard.
Like father, Don’t like the pacers.
As if an extra 200 meters of pacing would have mattered... He was cooked

This is true. Whatever may be said about the hypothetical shape he may be in based on this is all well and good for speculation, but what really matters is we have a big PR here from a guy who’s already been racing for years and who is known to have great tactical prowess. Going into the Olympics next week you have to be excited as an American fan to see what the master of positioning will do with this new level of fitness
since pacing and wavelights dont help anyone, then you cant be let down by them.
You be the judge.
54.6, 1:52, 2:51

Meh, nobody would consider that a "big PR". Guy has run a 3:30 1500.
"excited to see what the master of positioning will do with this new level of fitness"
LOL! Okay, fan-girl.
Potato Tim now knows that he just needs to go out in 54 to take care of Centro.
The night was jinxed after that weirdly framed socially awkward trio of announcers trying to fill 30 minutes of space before the time trial! Geez get behind a table or something.

100%. Why don't we cut through all the nonsense with the debates over last night's particular TT. Centro is not going to break Webb's American record. Webb was the ultimate Time Trialer who looked like an awkward HS runner in world class tactical races. He was born for that. Centro was born to win tactical races.

Yeah! What were they possibly thinking?!? A table was so obviously called for here. Kinda ruined it for me too. Geez.

True
He was cooked by the initial uneven pace.
when dibaba broke the 1500m record she was solo the last 700m and accelerated the pace when the rabbit dropped out. 1000m out of 1600m is damn good. You want a solo 2:48 through 1209 from the rabbits? I doubt centro can even do that solo.
Didn’t some college runners run 2:50 in the indoor DMR? They should be able to make 1200m

I think you’re 100% spot on.

Yeah we had the sideways view from Evan Jager and Vanessa Fraser.
It would have been nice to have heard a few comments from Jager and Fraser on their current training and racing plans. In particular, it has got to be stressful for Jager not to be on that airplane.
