You have a weird perspective on life/mental health.

Incidentally, a retired tennis correspondent in the comment section of The Times London said that this was his overall impression of her - “she has the mind of a child”. The persona is not an act.
Also made the point that in 30+ years in the sport he’d never seen a player need to pull out of a press conference.

She wants the fame, money, etc
She does? I get the sense she just wants to play tennis and be as good as she possibly can at it and hates everything else that comes with it. I don't know that for sure (in the way you don't know what you wrote either) but I think her actions follow my thoughts a heck of a lot more than yours.
Following for White Grievance Thread of the Day!

Why is this so triggering for everyone? It's really insane to me how much people care about others, focus on YOU!

She's half Haitian. I wonder why she doesn't want to live in Haiti??
Haiti doesn’t sponsor her. Japan did.
Why wouldn't Haiti sponsor her? They could use the glory more than Japan. She like to tell everyone she's half Haitian, but it doesn't appear she'd ever want to actually live there. Maybe Port-au-Prince will get the 2036 Summer Olympics and she'll still be competing.
Many foreign athletes live and train in the US but some are picking on yhis young woman, I wonder why?
I think you thought you said something witty here, but you just admitted your comparison was for 3 year olds to understand. Great minds think alike I suppose.
And AGAIN, she played the mental card because she has mental issues. Sorry she is forced to "play that card" to preserve her mental health. I don't think it backfired because she seems to be doing awesome. Sorry you got so butthurt about it. Just remember what she does has nothing to do with you and you'll be just fine regardless of what happens. Thankfully you are fortunate enough to have perfect mental health and cannot relate to what she's going through.

I think you thought you said something profound here.

Reporters constantly asking her what her ethnicity is and asking her why she wouldn't compete for those countries are the exact reasons why she doesn't want to do press.

What a dumb take. Why do you think you're entitled for her to perform for you? You need to move out of your mom's basement.
You seem to not understand the role of a professional athlete. There whole job is to entertain people.
Grow up. The comments about moms stopped being funny in 3rd grade.
I can tell this thread was made by someone who has never been a pro or even elite athlete.

Oh, please enlighten us.
What many here fail to understand is that you don’t just turn anxiety on or off. You have it or you don’t.
Y’all walk around with your Wikipedia psych degree and act like you know what you are talking about.
It’s clear she acts like a child. Perform on a big tennis stage? No thanks, too much pressure. Light a torch and get my picture taken and more attention? Sure I’ll do that.
You brought up race. No one else. Sad.
It’s easy to tell you’ve never done any athlete interviews or had people talk crap about you anonymously. And that’s because you’ve never been a great athlete/are a nobody. I realize this is a baiting troll thread which backs up my opinion on you even more lol.

Lol yeah, pretty sure almost everyone here hasn’t done any athlete interviews. You think this proves something. Pretty much everyone else here though has had to perform a job under some type of pressure. And pretty much everyone here is capable of competing that job without telling their boss they have anxiety.
I don’t know what your goal is other then telling me I’m not a top level athlete. Doesn’t really help your point any though so I have no choice but to write you off as a clown.

She was born in Japan. She does not hold Haitian citizenship.
Though she lived in the United States from a young age, the US chose not to sponsor her so she relinquished her dual citizenship and competes for Japan, who chose to sponsor her.

It's clear that you think you're making a point by continuing to troll this thread, however the only thing you are demonstrating to the rest of us is that you do not understand anxiety and its various forms properly.
Whether you support Osaka or not is irrelevant; one can both simultaneously suffer from anxiety AND partake in public events.
I think we need to talk about how bad SI has fallen. For this year's cover and unholy trinity, We have a female tennis player of average attractiveness. An overweight rapper. And a dude. Well done wokesters, there is nothing you cannot ruin.
