But did she take a knee first that is really all that matters
She's the number 2 player in the world. It's not like she's not used to being in the spot light and can't take pressure.
She just doesn't want to be forced to put up with a bunch of crap from ill informed reporters when she's trying to focus on tennis.

You realize a torch can't ask antagonizing questions on national TV, right? A torch is not a person. Please tell me you understand the difference between a reporter and a torch?

There are parts of every career that people dislike. She wants the fame, money, etc but can’t be bothered with questions? She has mental health and/or maturity problems.
She comes off as kid who is too full to eat vegetables, but has room if ice cream is brought out.
She’s an entertainer working for companies who have contractual obligations with those ill-informed reporters. Practically every tennis related article hinges on quotes from those press conferences.

#1 No SH$T she's admitted to having mental healthy issues? I think you just played yourself dummy. That's the whole point of her dialogue. She's preserving her mental health. How are you people on here so dense? lol
#2 EVERY KID EVER would have room for ice cream if you brought that out instead of vegetables and I'd argue they had body issues (developed by their veggie-obsessed parents) if they didn't want ice cream and need a therapist. You obviously have never had children.
Man ppl are dumb. No exceptions reading this.
This is an honor. She's competing for Japan. She saw the US is the trashy bit-chy swampy mess that's obsessed with whiney bitc-hes like Serena. They can't respect her so she ain't got no time for them and likely you.
What the Kurt Streeter column in the NY Times today misses out on in discussing black women being used for athletic celebrity but disrespected is that Serena Williams's fit at the U.S. Open won by Osaka was the cause and beginning of Osaka's mental health issues. Instead of enjoying her first Grand Slam win as a triumph, she was subjected to Williams's temper tantrum, which sucked all the joy and good attention out of it for Osaka and the dates line up. Williams was a poor sport and Osaka is the one who has suffered for it.
that someone comes on here and starts such a myopic thread is emblematic of this entire forum. so clever, so very clever, always, well done, go for a run

Can't stand Osaka's woke politics but THAT is not why she competes under the Japanese flag. When she was a promising teen player USTA declined to help fund her travels around the US and the World to develop her talents. She was deemed 'less promising' than the other kids that got the USTA funding. Japan stepped up and said 'we'll fund your development'. USTA sure focked that one up! As I said, I don't like her politics but I fully support her competing for Japan - the country that paid for her development. Eat it, USTA.

She however doesn’t dislike the United States enough to stop living here, even though, as Japanese citizen, she could very easily be living in Japan.

#1 She played the mental card to get out of interviews, but that back fired so now stuck with it. In the end she might have mental issues but immaturity is coming through more.
#2 Maybe I should have used a different example, but thought posters were at least five years old so would understand an analogy aimed at three year olds. You proved me wrong.

What a dumb take. Why do you think you're entitled for her to perform for you? You need to move out of your mom's basement.

Once in a blue moon, Yawn^9 comes out to give a take on something they clearly do not understand. It’s truly special whenever it happens :)
I guarantee that if "journalists" like tucker carlson or hannity ever tried to interview me they'd get a proper skull thumping. Their mental health would suffer with concussions.
The dialougue surrounding mental health on this board is really upsetting and illy misinformed.
Think of anxiety as any other emotion a person experiences. You experience happiness, but not everything makes you happy. You experience anger, but not everything makes you angry. Same goes for anxiety. Different emotions arise in different situations. Good on her for setting boundaries for herself.

This is very well written. Someone with anger issues isn’t going to be angry about everything they encounter, for the most part, they just feel more anger towards things than the normal person would experience.
