Frankly they have enough to worry about with trying to get the (always oversubscribed) race to go ahead.
They're not going to be bothered about a small percentage of people who can't or won't meet the requirements.

And your point is?
You stated "this voluntary jab doesn't sound too voluntary now suddenly". No one is forcing you to get vacinated because you don't have to run in the race. It's certainly not a "blackmailing tool". Your statement about "thousands" of vaccinated people unkowingly spreading the virus has no basis in science, at least none that I'm aware of. I'm open to anything you have to offer to substantiate that statement.
I happen to agree with you that a negative test option should also be on the table.
Well, lets say there are 30-40,000 runners taking part, all fully jabbed up. Odds are there will be x amount running whilst also having Covid. and the science does back that up actually. Not saying this as a bad terrible thing, I'm just using that I think the logic that you are jabbed and cannot spread it is misleading, especially at a sweaty running even with people spitting, throwing up, sweating, coughing etc etc. Having a negative test to me is much more useful to help prevent the spread.
Anyways, i do agree running a marathon isn't that important especially during a pandemic. I'm just querying the requirement to have proof of a 'voluntary' jab to take part, same applies with nightclubs which will also require proof of jabs. I personally think it wrong to mandate it.
It's not just about runners, it's also the crowds that turn up for the marathon. It's a huge event that can't be closed off or controlled since it goes through so much of the city. Crowds can be discouraged but that could only be enforced at massive cost to LME (organisers have to pay policing costs in the UK for sports events). Personally, I think an outdoor crowd is safe, but the public conversation will be different when we're at the peak of the Delta wave.
The government may push for the marathon to go ahead as they want to convince everyone that normal life can return, but mayor's of cities like London and Manchester, plus the government's of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not of the same mind. I can see the London mayor pushing for cancellation within weeks.
