If weather conditions are good, this should be a fast one because we saw that he was in good shape even before the Trials and because he did a fine time trial before World's in 2019 with BTC (13:00 PR). 3:48.4 would be very solid. If he can run 3:46.8, that would be legendary.
Do they drug test at Jerry's time trials?
This place truly is a sewer. Unfortunately, you can wade through the waste for a couple of good facts that you often can't get elsewhere. But it gets harder and harder to filter through the debris of our rotting culture to do so.

Another Jerry/BTC time trial. This is doing nothing. Centro is a racer and damn good one at that. He’s not a TT guy. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though and give him a 3:49 high. Solid enough for a PB but well outside the AR.
I agree that this may not play well with his Tokyo performance. I hate TTs before big championship races/rounds. They seem to almost always backfire.
He literally ran 13 flat in a “BTC time trial” A 20 SECOND PR but you fit right in on this thread with the other 50 horrible takes
Didn't he run 3:35 in a time trial recently?
He can try to break 3:50 with an l-carnitine supplement.

Uh, no, I don't think so

You might not like it, but look at the history and the group he is associated with?
Things are a little fishy out there. Lot's of secrecy and some questionable stuff happening.

He now decides to do this before the trials...
I think you meant the Games, not the trials.
His race on Saturday night is just 9 days before the first round of the men's 1500 in Tokyo. They start around 9 AM Tuesday the 3d, which is 5 PM Monday the 2nd in Portland.

I really prefer that the record stays in its natural state being held by a Trump supporter. Ryun, Scott, and Webb!
Does Centro get political?

USATF won't accept it as a record unless he gets drug tested after the race.
They are serious about this. Just ask Emma Coburn.
i think this fan reaction is largely expected.
i have largely been a complainer about how centro doesnt ever race. i legitimately thought he retired at one point. i freaking love this and am rooting for him.
the much more vocal centro defense force has been saying for years that he is too good and too smart to time trial, and saves his efforts for where it matters... lo and behold he plans a time trial right before the olympics, which is for some reason the only race some people care about.

This will cement him as the Olympic gold medal favorite, as I've been saying all along.
You’re trolling right? Centro needs a lot more than a 3:46 to be the Olympic favorite at this point.
I wish he had tried this when he was younger, but better late than never. Centro is not a time trial racer, so I don't expect him to break the AR but I hope that he will at least get a sub-3:50 PR.

No...no he doesn't. The Olympics are not a time trial. The Olympics are not always about who is faster. The Olympics are usually tactical and who is the better racer. Centro is the returning Golde Medal champ...he is in shape...and he has a shot. He can run 3:50 on Saturday and still have a chance.
This sport really is sad sometimes. The main responses on this thread are crying that he is doing this and then mentioning he is a drug cheat. We all complain about this sport becoming more popular and how USATF and other's need to change. The reality is nothing will ever change with fans like this. It's laughable.
isn't this ill-advised to dig that* deep into the well 2 weeks out before a championship caliber race?
I thought the only move that makes any sense this close to the deadline is a 1000 or so TT at race pace as a tuneup
Zero reward, pure risk cooking yourself this close to the dance no?

The sport is sad. Private little time trials in the dark with no testing. A coach who just had an athlete test positive and he says he has never heard of Nandralone, come on, this is too sketchy, no transparency. The Dr. Brown association with this coach, yes, this is sad. Feels like the eastern block machine of years ago. We all know what they were up to.
Sorry, don't buy it.

It's two weeks to the finals, but it's nine days to the prelims and eleven days to the semis.
And why not wait until after the Olympic Games and run it at a real track meet, like the Pre Classic in Eugene? Wouldn't that be the perfect place?
Instead they pick a High School track. Come on......

This is a mile not a 5k. If you can’t recover in 9 days you shouldn’t be running on the track. It is great prep if you think the final will be fast.
Realistically an AR would cement his legacy as much as another medal barring gold. Weird how a running site hates running so much.
