So I think the end game is about 20% of Americans will not ever get the vaccine unless forced to. This is based on polls I've seen where 41% Reps and 4% DS do not plan on getting vaccinated. It may even take some vaccine mandates to get to that 80% because a lot people are just not proactive and are just lazy.
I've been thinking more and more about the end game. It's depressing. I think you're in the ballpark, but I'd guess that we won't get to 70% by Christmas. By then, the effectiveness of the vaccine should be faded for those who were vaccinated in Dec-Feb last year so I don't think the effective rate will ever exceed 70% or so.
Of course, that's just the US. The rest of the world is probably not going to reach 40% by Christmas.
It's looking like the world will never be able to vaxx itself out of this pandemic.
I've read lots of post-apocalypse books. Many assumed deadly viruses, but none assumed this slow death-of-a-thousand-cuts scenario. This is uncharted, unimagined territory.
This thread has forced me to reassess my anti-vaxx position. I talked with a friend my age today (70+) who related several horror stories of vaccine side effects among her friends and then said both she and her husband were vaccinated. When I gave her a puzzled look, she added, "We're at risk. What else can we do?"
