I don't have time to quote all the comments that gave me apoplexy. Hobbs Kessler is a phenomenal talent and fab kid but you think he deserves a Beats commercial more than Sha'Carri? He didn't even make it to the final round of his event at Trials. She won hers and ran a 10.6 in prelim. On a personality level, she touched hearts with her personal story, her attitude and her unapologetic embrace of the Black community (who embrace her back with a Beats commercial + new Kanye song) even before the weed test, and then she showed a lot of heart again being accountable for her own actions. She never complained or whinged about not making the team because of that. She just said where she was coming from.
Someone is comparing her to Tinman and Gwen Jorgensen as in hype and social media numbers matter more than performance. She def backs up her confidence and hype—she would be a favorite for gold or silver if she were going to Tokyo and on the social media presence she has like 2 million more followers than Tinman or Gwen.
This is what people of color mean when they say they have to do three times the work and the performance than white people to get the same respect. I mean, c'mon. She's a superstar in the making for the mainstream public and you're comparing her to runners who have side revenue income from their own branded merch and videos about how to cook stuff in their hotel room in one pot. I mean, all respect to that. They are better runners than I am by 1,000. But Sha'Carri's on a whole other level.
