I think Galen or Molly sneak in for a bronze medal if they run a great race and get a little lucky with a few blow ups. I think Eliud gets silver.
In no particular order:
Kipchoge, Someone Big in Japan, Someone Else nobody is expecting. Rupp will finish 5-10 place, Jake maybe runs 2:19, Old Man will DNF.

Oops. My bad
Dang that was terrible choice by Ethiopia. He would have won gold.

Rupp or a Japanese guy have a shot to medal because usually one Kenyan/Ethiopian was not the best choice (although both of their teams seem strong this year) and one or two is not in the the best condition for a tactical race.
For example, in 2012 all of the Ethiopians dropped out and Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya came in 17th.
In 2016, Berhanu came in 13th and Biwott, Wesley Korir, and Abera dropped out.

A good take, though I will be very impressed with Rupp if he gets the bronze. The Ethiopians are still the main rivals, despite the depth of the Japanese - I would be interested to see how they all cope with the likes of Kitata who is on great form the past 12 months, and tough.
My take (revised slightly from a few months ago):
1. Eliud Kipchoge
2. Lawrence Cherono
3. Shura Kitata
I think Kipchoge will like having Cherono to run with, and would be actually more confident of a win for him than if he were out by himself with no Kenyans before 30km. I think Cherono likewise has speed in his own right, but will stick to Kipchoge as much as he can and try to mirror his moves.
Rupp hasn't quite got a foil to use in the USA team like this. Maybe he doesn't need one.
One thing Kitata has shown (along with speed) is he can cope with tough conditions and/or close finishes. I think it will be lot closer than Rio, and that it'll be well after 35km before there are real significant gaps between the top 3 or 5 - certainly nothing like Rio.
I think the Japanese will all be fast, but just - just - outside of the podium. Will still be a good games for them, and another stepping stone to WMM contenders.
We'll see :)
We did see, and most of us were wrong, except for Kipchoge of course. Kipchoge is the GOAT of marathons :)
