Many guys, including Lopes, Salazar and Shorter have run 10000 PRs while training for a marathon. The training is virtually identical and they always do some type of speed work. You make it sound as if Rupp is running 160 mpw at 8:00 pace.
TIL that 10k and marathon training are identical and that it is completely expected and normal and expected to exceed your Olympic medal caliber 10k PR at the peak of a marathon build.
