Where will he catch it? He has travelled quit a bit over the past 6 months and been around thousands of people. Seems like his chances would be much less over the next month.

Before vaxxing, get an antibodies test to see if you already had Covid
Getting "sick" from the jab is how vaccines work, genius.
Since they are quarantining and DQing vaccinated people for still having Covid. Why get vaccinated? No point.

It is true there is no incentive. And from a medical standpoint considering he recently had COVID, there's probably no meaningful extra protection from the vaccine.
While I think it's ridiculous how they are treating vaxx'ed individuals, I understand it might be because a lot of athletes might come vaccinated with the Russian one or Chinese one which do a crap job compared to Moderna/Pfizer.
How is this anyone's business? Pretty big HIPPA violation by posting this. Brojos would be smart to delete unless they want a potential lawsuit.

Did you read the article? He already had it this spring. And while I think even those who had covid should get vaccinated I don't think that its really urgent after a couple months of recovering. He barely had a headache the first time around. Even if he recontracts it, to himself the only danger is that he misses the olympics due to being quarantined.

ok GeNiUs. I guess death is a common and normal side effect too, right?
This post was removed.
I wish he was vaccinated but imagine his situation.
He’s having the year of his life and a hefty race schedule.
He’s looking at scheduling two shots three weeks apart during peak racing season where there is a good chance he will be sick for a day with each shot.
Do you schedule it for conference, regionals, NCs or the Trials week?
Do you squeeze them between the Trials and the Games?
Maybe the majority of the athletes figured out the timing of their shots. I don’t know the list of who’s done it.
I wouldn’t call him the hero for those against mass vaccination or the villain for those that want 100% compliance immediately.
Just a young guy on a great ride trying to keep it going.
..good for him; what’s the down side ..?
The olympics may be cancelled at the last minute anyway.
No double shot of poison, he knows what up! Hocker for 3rd!

Hocker not getting vaccinated shows Hocker has no respect for himself, his family, or the other Olympic teammates.
These Olympics are going to be a disaster. COVID is going to sweep through the unvaccinated just as it is across the globe.
Can people act like this is cut and dry and the vaccine is some cure all?
Are you aware that the UK just said kids they will not be vaccinating most kids under 18?
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/uk-opts-not-to-vaccinate-most-under-18-against-covid-19Hocker was 19 most of the year. Clearly medically many people are saying it's not worth it for the young to be vaccintated.
^^^^ Bingo. Great post.
In the last 6 months in the US, 99+% of those who died were unvaccinated including teens and 20-somethings. It's news when a vaccinated person dies because it is so rare. The vaccine works. 6% of Democrats say they will not get vaccinated, in comparison to 47% of Republicans who say so. Yes, these are general stats and there are exceptions. Hocker caught it had a headache for a couple days. That's the only reason not to get vaccinated - he has "some" immunity - though not as much as if he were vaccinated. But if he wants to return in the fall to Oregon he is going to have to get vaccinated. We ALL hope he is able to compete and do well at the Olympics.

The down side would be if they instituted a policy that they only allowed vaccinated people into Japan.
Things shut down real quickly in March last year.
There are debates that the Olympics may be cancelled yet or an unvaxxed quarantine could be called on the last minute.
Unlikely but it could have been a potential downside.
Now an Olympics of only the vaccinated would be like a boycott Olympics.
No...most people in the US seem to believe vaccines are unequivocally safe. Just what we've been raised to believe. However, most are unaware that pharma has been given complete immunity to any legality if you are injured or someone dies due to a vaccine. So somehow those same companies that highlight all the dangerous side effects of the meds they push on television have hit the "holy grail" of safety when it comes to vaccines...the one thing they have no legal concern pertaining to damming effects they may cause.
Maybe Hocker and his family are not comfortable with the safety of the vaccine. It does come with risk. Much more than most realize. There have been thousands of reported deaths and injures to VAERS (the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) after taking the COVID vaccine. I had never heard of VAERS or truly had any concerns about vaccines myself until about 10 years ago when my 7-month-old son had a stroke due to vaccines.
A good resource that gives some insight into injures and deaths concerns reported to VAERS from COVID vaccine -
There are numerous others like me that had a wake-up call regarding vaccine safety. Honestly, I gave little thought beforehand and had certainly not done any research into the topic. Just always assumed they were perfectly safe and I should have no concerns. There are countless people who have had similar experiences and do not give the blind trust we once did. Republicans, Dems, white, black. etc.
It's common to negatively label those who raise their voice with concerns about vaccine safety. The reality is many, probably most, of those people are actually more well versed on the topic due to prior experience.
Comes down to this: If you don't get vaccinated, you don't want to win that badly. Putting aside the danger of getting sick or going to the hospital, there's a huge risk that he wont be allowed to participate in the games at all. Even anti-vax incels on this site will admit its very possible to test positive for Covid. And if that happens, he will be sent home right away.

I had this thought, too. Especially coupled with his lack of A standard, too.
But if he didn't want to win....why would he have these crazy kicks all the time?
Hopefully he doesn't have any positive tests en route to Tokyo that will jeopardize his ability to run.
Hopefully the games aren't cancelled.
